billsfan89 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Seattle will probably have one more really solid contending year ahead of them but once this JSN extension kicks in and Darnold asks for a pay raise Seattle is going to have to hit on its drafting consistently again and they have shown that's something they historically ebb and flow on. Definitely gotta keep JSN but as with any type of winning the "disease of more" kicks in and comes with risks. Quote

I could see Schneider making the shrewd decision of telling Darnold "no", and looking to draft a QB in 2027. It's an interesting situation because this newer regime (excluding Schneider) already won their Super Bowl! So there's kinda of nothing left to prove. Schneider could choose to blow it all up again and who could argue with him considering how he's done there over the last 15 years. 3 1 Quote

Mr. WEO Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Will be a relative bargain in a few years. This is what you pay an actual game changer. Imagine being the Browns paying Garrett this kind of money to be the best player on the mediocre defense of a garbage team? Incredible waste of money. 1 Quote

Hard thing about that is you then are stuck with a veteran team that's going to have to likely mortgage their future draft picks to start over again at QB and likely with the 3rd to 6th QB taken if their own pick is slotted in the playoffs at pick 20+. So you give Darnold 55-65 million (if he's unwilling to take a little less) and hope you can keep building the team around him and JSN via draft picks and some resigning's or you completely blow it up for 2-3 years and try to find a QB again? With the post Russ rebuild they were handed a ton of draft capital and were decent for a few years. This time they won't have the Russ trade to start a rebuild. Quote

Alphadawg7 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Thats - never win another SB while this contract exists - territory. But they already got one, so good for JSN. Best case scenario though for Seattle is if they can keep Darnold at his current pay to offset some of the cap impact of this. But if Darnold ends up with a pay bump, this is going to be a lot of money to navigate and still try and stay a legit contender. Interesting - Seattle SB MVP was a RB, not their now $40M WR nor their well paid QB. They just let that SB MVP walk for peanuts comparably, and their successor RB is coming off a major injury and is more a committee RB than a lead back. A lot now riding on the passing game in Seattle. Darnold was is solid starter, but he isn't carrying a team back to the SB. Without Walker, they not only don't win the SB, but they wouldn't have even reached it. But JSN and Darnold still get all the money and attention. Book it - Seattle is going to take a step back this year. 1 1 Quote

Darnold 26 cap hit is $37,900,000...Josh is $44,228,000.... and Darnold will be $41,900,000 next year and Josh will restructure to lower his down to about that. Quote

Just to refresh everyone's memory of the 2023 draft, JSN was the first receiver taken but not until pick #20. That started a mini-WR run with Quentin Johnson at 21, Zay Flowers at 22, and Jordan Addison at 23. The Giants then took CB Deonte Banks at 24 and we took Dalton Kincaid at 25. 2 2 Quote

SoCal Deek Posted March 23 Posted March 23 I’ll just come out and say it: “these guys are all making way too much money”. Quote
sven233 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 This is the reason you have to draft a WR in the first 3-4 rounds every year. Not all of them are going to be stars, but hopefully you hit on a couple of them, they're great, and you keep as many as you can. But, there will inevitably be guys that will be too expensive to sign and you need great players at premium positions on rookie deals. WR, CB, and elite pass rushers are those guys and you need a steady stream of them coming into your team or else you will be overpaying for above average talent instead of elite talents. 1 Quote

I think the “more complete” WR is Puka. Unfortunately, that also comes with what appears to be a disaster in the waiting off the field. JSN, looks to be the type of guy you hope your daughter finds, where Puka looks like he’d love to hang w Diggs. Quote

In 2024, Darnold was good and much better than he was earlier in his career (his year in SF the year before was apparently huge for his development). And in 2025, he was better than he was in 2024. He has the tools - good mobility, good arm, accuracy, and now the ability to run a Shanahan-tree offense with relative ease. I could see him having a huge year this year, and if that happens, Schneider won’t be able to turn the page (and nor should he). Quote
