That's a lot of money for 3 batted balls a year.

I agree that he never amounted to much considering where we drafted him, but something tells me alot of our DE issues are most likely a system issue with mcdermott more so then the fact that every DE we drafted, or signed in FA never amounted to much since he's been our coach!

Ill bet he's good for 7-9 sacks in the defensive system.

AJ isn't magically turning into a nine sack guy

You only coach up players so much and pass rushing is unnatural trait... Can't get coach from a C+ pass rusher to an A+ pass rusher

You might be able to get coached up from a C+ to a b- and we've done a lot of that over the years

We just haven't had the dogs who can bend and rip who can get you 12 13 sacks a yearr.. you draft guys with those traits

I think the big question is what does the "up to $5m" mean.  If it's $2-3m w/ incentives that are indicative of superlative play, then I'm disappointed.  For that kind of $, I think he's worth it.  IMO, he would fit in well in a OLB position.  If it's $4m "base", then c'est la vie; that's too rich for us.

Another Beane mistake finally gone

Guy made 2-3 great plays each season. Great 5th DE. Bust for a 2nd round pick.

What a dumb post. AJE wasn't a bust. I'm also fine with him being gone.

Bust for a 2nd round pick.

The average NFL 2nd rnd pick plays about 56 NFL games in their career.

Despite being picked near the end of the 2nd rnd, Epenesa has already played nearly 100.

What a bust :lol::lol::lol:

Solid player

His best asset doesn't really show up on the stat sheet and that's impacting throwing around him

He has a threat to bat it down or pick it off not really much of a pass rush though

Brilliant move by him. Anyone who lines up on the other side of Garrett is going to have some easy sacks. Could have a career year.

He was rarely chipped or double teamed here so what makes you think he'll be any more effective there?

as a situational pass rusher here on a team with no star pass rushers whatsoever, he had a string of 3 years in a row with 6+ sacks. That was also on an extremely low snap count.

if he gets any meaningful playing time there, those numbers are going to be better. Just from all the double teams and sliding of protections over to Garrett’s side, he is going to have some favorable opportunities.

Always enjoyed the element of chaos he brought. Name another hand in the ground DE with 4 INTs in 5 years.

Part of me was curious to see him at OLB and just be annoying in passing lanes.

he wasn’t a Jamarcus bust but he wasn’t great for either his slot or the second contract

bust may be harsh but he certainly didn’t exceed expectations

More career INTs than Sauce Gardner, apparently.

No he wasn't great and he never exceeded expectation. He was drafted in the 2nd round, not the 1st... and in the 2nd half of the 2nd round.

He's been a significant contributor and occasional starter on a defense that rotates it's players in waves. And he's made many memorable impact plays for the team.

Would have been nice for him to exceed expectations, but given where he was drafted, he met them

Next thing I know people are going to start complaining Dane Jackson was a bust.
