Justin Fields isn’t good.  If he has to play for KC, that’s a good thing for everyone else.  I guess he was a better option than what they had but it certainly shouldn’t scare anyone.

Made sense for the Jets to deal him after acquiring Geno and get something back.

He’s WAY better than Kyle Allen. I’m not saying that Fields is good but if he plays 4 weeks for the Chiefs they could be 2-2. If Kyle Allen plays 4 weeks for the Bills they’ll be lucky to win a game.

To be clear, I’m not advocating for Fields. This to me is more, “why did the Bills rush to sign the 32nd best backup on week 1 of FA?” I would have much rather waited until the summer when the musical chairs stop and sign the best of what’s left (Jameis was my target).

The only plausible answer is, “Josh wanted his buddy.” Maybe someone beats out Allen and he is just an expensive PS guy. I’m fine with that.

I do care more about QB 2 than most. In my mind, when you’re good, QB 2 is way more important then when you are bad. I always look at it as a 4 game window. Playoff seeding and divisional races almost always come down to a game or 2. If your QB misses 4 games it matters if you’re 4-0, 3-1, 2-2, 1-3 or 0-4. With Kyle Allen I don’t think that they win 2 but that would be the ceiling for me. With some of those other guys, 3 wins is possible although 2 more realistic.

I am a big Jameis Winston fan.

Not sure what the infatuation w Kyle Allen is

Bills should draft a decent prospect and let them compete w Kyle Allen.

But trading for Justin Fields is another level of suckitude.  The guy looked as bad as any NFL QB could look in the Bills-Jets game last fall in NY.  And there have been many others where he was just as bad.  Do you  remember that epic Thursday night game from a few years back between Washington and Chicago?  Wentz v Fields.  Felt like I was watching a 1940’s game.

Who is Fields going to beat ?

I like Shane Buechele a lot.

I hope the Bills actually allow him to compete for the backup position.

would love Winston as the backup.  Dude can make big plays, yeah, he also throws INTs, but he's about as good as you get for a backup.  Entertaining, gives the team a chance to win and the D can't just pinch up because he has a live arm (which keeps running game open).  I'd like Drew Aller (if available late) or Cole Payton (UND) as drafted QBs.

I’m not sure if this is an asked but when is Mahomes going to return? Will he be ready by week one?

I don't think he'll be back by week 1........i'm hearing people project that he'll be lucky to be back by week 5 or 6.

Take it with a grain of salt.

This is coming from blowhard Francesa but if true then Glenn is not the one running the show.

Im in agreement, Winston would’ve been a ton better for a backup.  I don’t believe he would’ve balked at backup $.    Let’s hope we don’t have to see Kyle Allen.  Winston for ahis faults, never played behind an O Line like ours, and if we draft a fast WR on top of DJ, and Shakir would’ve made it easy for him to go 2&2.  That’s what you want from a backup.  Just split the games.  If you go 3&1, that’s gravy.  Most don’t.

The safest backup QB jobs are in Kansas, Buffalo, Philadelphia, Detroit  etc.   You can collect a cool $5M a year knowing that you will rarely have to enter the playing field

A backup QB beat us up in Houston last year

The Bills can’t afford a top flight backup Qb. I’m with most people on this board. If Allen goes down, the season is probably over. I wish Beane would’ve went for an even cheaper rookie.

In the event Allen DOES get injured *knock on wood* a rookie would lose a ton more games and give them a chance at a high first rounder. Something they haven’t had since they drafted Oliver.

If Josh misses 4 games you think they’re done? I disagree in the AFCE.

I understand not paying a good backup like Mitch. I do not understand rushing to sign a horrible backup in Kyle Allen. That was unnecessary.

Short of paying a premium for a good backup QB, the best move is to find a mobile QB that you can run a gimmick offense for a few games with if Josh is hurt for a couple weeks.  I’d bring in Richardson on a vet minumum deal if Colts cut him.  Kyle Allen was signed to be Josh’s emotional support animal nothing more.

Glenn is going to fired by week 6. Bringing him back was a terrible decision

I think that the Jets bringing back Glenn and hiring Reich, is an effort to tank. They have tons of draft assets this year and next year. The Jets, in theory, should enter the 2027 season with WAY more talent (primarily on rookie deals), a new QB and a new coach. Glenn is there still because he stinks and will ensure they pick early in 2027.

They have picks: 2, 16, 33 and 44 this year. They have 3 1sts and their own 2nd next year (which should be early). There’s a real world where they select eight guys with top 44 picks, including two guys with top 2 picks, over the next two drafts.

The “Jetiest” outcome will be getting guys this year that look like role players at best and then rallying to 6 wins. In 2027, what could have been pick 1 is now pick 6 or 7. They end up with the 5th QB off the board or trading all their draft capital to take the 2nd or 3rd guy (depending on the separation). That guy then proceeds to be the next JJ McCarthy and they are back to square 1 squandering 8 early picks. 😂😂

THIS is the Jetsiest outcome ever: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4228771/2020/12/20/jets-stun-rams-for-first-win-losing-grip-on-no-1-pick/. Can they top it? It's hard but they have experience in these matters and a history of bad luck. It can be done.

'Jets stun Rams for first win, losing grip on No. 1 pick

The New York Jets earned their first win of the season with a stunning 23-20 victory against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, losing hold of their positioning for the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jets, who were 17-point underdogs, improved to 1-13 and moved into a tie with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the worst record in the league. However, if the two teams remain tied at the end of the season, the Jaguars would hold the edge for the top pick via the strength-of-schedule tiebreaker.

“Our job is to go out and try to win every week,” Jets coach Adam Gase said. “It’s been too long for us to even remember what a win feels like.”

Should Jets fans be happy or disappointed?

Connor Hughes, Jets beat reporter: Disappointed. There's no other way they should feel about this. Trevor Lawrence — the best quarterback prospect since John Elway — was theirs for the taking. All they had to do was lose these final three games. Instead? They beat the Rams. Now, the Jaguars have the advantage for Lawrence. It's just another gut-punch to the fans of a franchise that just can't get out of its own way.

Handicapping the "race" for the top pick

Hughes: The Jaguars have the strength of schedule advantage, so the pick is theirs if both lose out. The only game the Jaguars might win the rest of the way is against the Bears next week.'

But then why go get Geno. He isn't very good, but he is better than Fields. Geno can probably help them win 6 or 7 games which will hurt their tank. If they do that and miss out on the top QBs in the 2027 draft, then I will be happy. From their POV they would be better with Fields as the QB to guarantee (most likely) a 4 or less win season.

You would think but the Jets are going to Jets. They couldn’t straight face bringing Fields back to their fan base after having him in and out of the lineup. In the interest of “not tanking” they had to show something to the NFL. Geno will probably have a bounce back year and the Jets will overachieve. That’s how things go for them. Lol, I’m hoping for the same result for Miami. I would love if the Jets and Dolphins combined to win at least 12-14 games (minimum of 5 or 6 each). 2027 is the year for teams looking to build ground up. I’m hoping both teams screw up their chances of doing that.
