Gregg Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Adam Schefter on X: "Trade: the New York Jets are finalizing a deal that will send QB Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, pending a physical, per ESPN sources. Other teams were interested, but Fields’ preference was to go to Kansas City. https://t.co/HFgFODMi0r" / X 1 Quote

GunnerBill Posted March 16 Posted March 16 don't worry we've got *checks card* KYLE ALLEN?!?!?!? 1 1 10 Quote
atlbillsfan1975 Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Well this does give me slight pause d/t Andy’s history with athletic QB’s. I am not expecting Fields to look like vintage Mahomes or McNabb, but if he turns into KC version of Alex Smith, the Chiefs will be a solid team. They could be fighting for a playoff spot when Mahomes is ready to return. 2 Quote

It’s perhaps a minor complaint, but I prefer when OBD signs a mildly failed former projected QB1 to a lacklustre career QB2/3 who happens to be friendly with the QB1. 1 Quote

The difference being there is a significant chance Fields plays and maybe even starts the season. But really, if either Fields or Kyle see much playing time it's going to be bad news for their teams. 2 Quote
KingBoots8 Posted March 16 Posted March 16 This makes sense for both sides, but I would anticipate KC made this move to get someone with starter experience in the event Mahomes isn’t ready by week 1. They could have signed someone when FA kicked off, and likely would have their pick given the circumstances. You don’t trade for a backup QB unless you plan on having him get some time on the field. 1 Quote

When is Mahomes expected to be back. The Chiefs are going to have to play a good portion of the season without him. At least with the Bills barring some injury in TC we know #17 will be out there week 1. 1 Quote

Reading the comments on this elsewhere, Chiefs fans seem to think there is a chance Mahomes starts week 1, and this is just insurance. I could see it for any of these starting QBs, they never want to miss time. But $10M is a hefty price tag for insurance. 2 Quote
wppete Posted March 16 Posted March 16 His Base Salary: $20,000,000. 😂. Hope KC is on the hook for all that money. 1 1 Quote

If other commenters are correct it looks like Jets have to eat $10M and KC is on the hook for $10M. Still a good chunk of change for a semi-backup. edit: other commenters were not correct. Chiefs are only on the hook for like $3M this year. Edited March 17 by DrDawkinstein 3 1 Quote

I think Chiefs fans are delusional if they think he is starting week 1. I was thinking more mid-season at the earliest. 1 Quote

We're still 6 months away from the season and Mahomes could just walk in day 1. I dont expect him to miss more than a couple games, if that. 3 1 Quote
