Mikie2times Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Hi all, I decided to run a March Madness bracket this year. Entry and Prize structure as follows: $50 buy in 1st = 70% 2nd = 20% 3rd = 10% The round of 64 starts Thursday. First come first serve, the max is 25 entries (I hope we can get to that many). If interested please message me and I will get you the details. 1 Quote

Do you get more points for choosing the champion? ESPN's Tournament Challenge uses a progressive scoring system where correct picks double in value each round. Points start at 10 for the Round of 64 and increase to 20, 40, 80, 160, and finally 320 points for correctly picking the National Champion. The goal is to accumulate the highest total points by the end of the tournament. ESPN Bracket Point Structure Round 1 (Round of 64): 10 points per correct pick Round 2 (Round of 32): 20 points per correct pick Round 3 (Sweet 16): 40 points per correct pick Round 4 (Elite Eight): 80 points per correct pick Round 5 (Final Four): 160 points per correct pick Round 6 (Championship): 320 points for the correct champion 1 Quote

Mike in Horseheads Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Hells bells, being pushed form the main page to OTW is bad for the gambling business. At least it didn't get shipped to PPP! 1 Quote

The gambling issues will just be another recurring story line, like in a soap opera. The guys are suspended but they still got a 14 seed out west and will come home after a dismantling by Gonzaga. I wonder how much the network will talk about the point shavers who were not eligible today? Quote

We can still win. Who will know? What could go wrong? Well, THIS. Something so inconsequential is not going to draw huge dollars in wagers, but when it does…..what’s up with that???? If you don’t plan to make it worthwhile, why do it. But you can’t have it both ways. 1 Quote
Augie Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I was pleased to see that both Buffalo and Greenville, SC got games. My BIL lives in Greenville about 2.5 hours away and we have some furniture to take him. The freedom of being retired is pretty cool. There is nothing like the energy of a Tournament game. A Super Bowl doesn’t compare to that energy. I used to travel to see Xavier in the tournament and it was always a great time. I bought some guys from Wisconsin a pitcher of beer in Orlando’s Church Street Station on the first night. It turns out they were part of a huge group that traveled to a pre-planned warm weather site every year. Dozens of guys and several generations, and I somehow got adopted on Day One. It was AWESOME! What a crowd! I’m all in every time Wisconsin plays in the tournament. 🍺 Quote

If I were nearby I’d try to make it if you’ve never seen it. Depending upon the matchups the tix can get pricey if you get a team that really travels well (the fans), like Kentucky. But NOTHING that I have ever been to can beat that energy, even (especially?) a Super Bowl. Edited March 18 by Augie Quote

My brother and SIL are going to the MSU game tomorrow as she's originally from East Lansing and an MSU grad. I know Buffalo always gets rave reviews as a host city. If Syracuse were relevant and in town I probably would have been more motivated to get tickets. Quote

I’ve had the good fortune to attend Xavier tournament games/weekends in Atlanta, Nashville and Orlando twice. We had the boys with us the first time in Orlando. This is decades ago and if I said to any of them “Tuba Boy” they would know exactly what I was talking about! 😂 1 Quote
