RVD can still negotiate with other teams. Bills can match offers if they want to. If they don’t match they lose him for no compensation. Bills can also work out a trade it that’s something they want to do.
 

The best point he made is that the Bills can pull this tender at any time if they change their mind, making him a UFA. So it’s basically a 3.5 million cap hold. They could be working on a trade, or maybe they just want to keep him. But this is a no brainer. 

I think this same thing happened with the Bears when Bates was a RFA. We didnt match so he left.

Yeah the Vikings have Darrisaw who is very good but always hurt so this makes sense for them. Probably a no brainer to match and then try to trade him, or work something out so they don’t match. If the Bills don’t match they get back that 3.5 million cap hold.

Nah we matched, kept him for teo years then traded him to the Bears for a 5th maybe. Obviously they still liked him.

Nah we matched, kept him for a year then traded him to the Bears for a 5th maybe. Obviously they still liked him.

I also wouldn’t care if they let him walk, with Lundt clearly being a player they’re looking to develop. I also expect a late round OL flier like they tend to go for.

You've spent two Draft Picks in back to back years on Offensive Tackles in Grable and Lundt. Grable was poised to become OT3 before he got injured before the year. Both are now entering Year 2 or Year 3 in the building.

 

I can think of far better uses for 4.2m this off-season than spending it on an OT3/OT4, when you have two picks in house.

 

If you don't feel good about one of them, take another somewhere on Day 3 and/or sign a cheaper veteran option.

Vandy is fine. That’s too much cap space to commit to him IMO. I think Grable is better too. Anderson at LG and Grable as the swing OT. Draft a guy day 3 & sign an experienced vet over the summer.

I’d try to trade him. Not sure if I match. You could just sign like Calvin Anderson who was with Meyer in Pittsburgh for close to the minimum to be a swing.
 

Or you can live with your in house guys. Alec Anderson is your swing backup interior who competes at LG, Grable is your swing back up tackle.

 

I would probably use the money to sign a veteran guard like James Daniels or Brady Christensen. Maybe you can get Joel Bitonio cheap so he can try to win for once in his life. But there are a bunch of interesting guys left in free agency and I would be pretty dissapointed if they just hand Anderson the job. It most likely will backfire.

It's the latter. He was an Undrafted Free Agent, so Original Round Tender doesn't apply and I'm pretty positive we didn't place a 1sr or 2nd Round tender on him. If we had, there's no way they'd be giving up a 1st or 2nd Rounder for someone like RVD.

I think you can. They can also just call the Vikings within the 5 days and say hey if you give us a six we won’t match.

I'm fine matching it. I'm usually against paying for depth but it's a practical guarantee that our #3 OT will take snaps this year, and likely have to be a starter for at least one game. I'm willing to pay $4.2M to make sure Josh Allen is decently protected on those inevitable snaps. A bit steeper than I'd like but you can't put a price on Allen staying upright. RVD has shown he's capable of filling that spot role.

He’s an okay player. That was a terrible contract. It was a bad contract the second it was signed. I hope that he becomes a guy worth 4 years and $50M. That would be fantastic.
