One thing was that if a player had any sort of red flag concerning behavior, they were taken off the board. The other is that he helped choose players who fit his defensive scheme. Pretty sure he had a lot of input into what defensive players were drafted. It also isn't all on Beane, as he relies on his scouts and coaches to help inform him on who they think will be the best fit. Sometimes, a GM is only as good as his scouts and coaching staff. This new, younger DC with an all-new defensive staff should improve things going forward...we hope. ☺️ Quote
