If Allen goes down for a month or so, we are not screwed unless a QB who shouldn't be on the roster comes in and loses all 4-5 games. A competent backup going 2-2 over that span keeps the train on the track. I do get that, but for a team that is tight against the cap we have to make sacrifices somewhere on the roster... And I just feel like backup QB is a natural spot for that. I'd rather pay for best case scenario players over worst case scenario players. 1 Quote

And I know, wait until the actual contract details come out, the Devil is always in the details, it's the guaranteed money that matters, but Yowza. He's played in the league 8 years, but he has (as best I can tell) only 4 credited seasons (played in at least 3 games to be credited). Vet minimum for that is $1.2M per year. 1 Quote

Nitro Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Cheap contract, knows Brady and is a friend of Josh Allen. No drama in the QB room. Quote

This is especially true for the star QBs like Allen, Mahomes etc. If those guys go down, your season's cooked anyways. Yes, if the injury is long term. But what if your starter goes down for 3-4 weeks? Then you need a guy who can hold the fort down. Kyle Allen is most certainly not it. Josh better play all 17 games again 1 Quote

Matt Cassel and Hoyer did what in the NFL? Matt turned out to be a below avg starter and Hoyer was well, the same or worse. Jimmy G got his time and had his moments. But he was also a 2nd round pick, is that what you want to invest right now? Kyle Alpen is capable of stepping in for a couple weeks against avg to below avg teams. Josh (and the team) benefits from a vet backup and close friend, much more than spending meaningful cap or draft capital on a backup 1 hour ago, NeverOutNick said: 🤔 Contract details should help clarify if this was an overpay or a cheap 1 yr deal 1 2 Quote

I understand the logic but I can't really get on board with having one of the worst backup QBs in the league when the all world starter has taken excessive punishment over the years and is now entering his 30's. Kyle Allen is barely better than Peterman Quote
dgrochester55 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 (edited) My initial thought was could be better, could be worse. I like that the price is dirt cheap and he does know the system. If that is who Josh felt most comfortable, then it was the right choice. Edited March 10 by dgrochester55 Quote
