Who will be our new human friendly-fire missile though?

Good riddance. One of my least favorite players of the McDermott era.

Least favorite? Lol there’s been some down right awful players. Rapp had some decent moments.

I am waiting on the Knox announcement. That’s the one most interesting to me at this point.

I would think an extension, like 2 years and about $10 million in new money and flatten out the contract to average around $8m a year and avoid the huge dead cap hit.

plus he is used alot in this offense and he is effective.

That is one specific instance that was reported on. I'm sure plenty went on behind the scenes. Beane and McDermott used to be lock step aligned on everything and used to appear together in front of the media. That stopped a couple of years ago, and there seemed to be tension between them. They certainly didn't see eye to eye by the end.

I’m not disagreeing with you at all but I am just so sick of hearing the “poor Sean” narrative that seems to be prevalent since he was canned. There is plenty of evidence I won’t get into that his firing was more than justified. Even in his last game as a Bills coach.

Sounds like it didn’t take long for Leonhard to get thru his film study and evaluation.

This has not been a good defense.  Give me a Top 10 defense with Josh Allen and thats a Super Bowl Team

Promising start, but this guy became a walking jinx and a liability in both the run & pass. His best year was his first.

Sure, but that applies to Beane as well. There is just as much justification to fire Beane. I feel like moving on from both or neither should have been the choice. But whatever. We'll see how it all works out.

Well Dalton is glass, they apparently don’t see Hawes as a real receiving option on offense due to his blocking so they really need to rework Knox’s deal because I seriously don’t think he is taking a pay cut…but hopefully I’m wrong

We’ve had plenty of top 10 defenses in the Josh Allen era, but I get what you’re saying. “Give me a top 10 defense that plays like a top 10 defense in the playoffs and that’s a Super Bowl team with Allen at QB.” Our top 10 defenses of years past have been historically poor in the playoffs, specifically against great QBs like Burrow or Mahomes - regardless of how poor those offenses were in the regular season.

My version:

McDermott to Pegula/Beane: "It's more important to have undersized quick players than it is bigger stronger players"

Pegula/Beane: "I don't know, aren't they gonna be more injury-prone?"

McDermott to Pegula/Beane: "Trust me on this. BTW, let's sign 3 defensive free agents, I really like Bosa, Ogunjobi, and Hoecht. Also if you don't use at least 6 of the first 7 draft picks on defensive players I'm gonna hold my breath (again). You guys have never fully given me what this defense needs to be successful. You guys owe me this!"

Pegula/Beane: (roll their eyes)

Pegula to Beane: "Give him what he wants"

9 months later

Pegula to McDermott: "You're fired"

McDermott to Pegula: "Wadya mean? What for? You have to trust the process... plus I clap a lot... daily habit of excellence... playoff caliber..."

Pegula to McDermott: "You've been here for 9 seasons, wasted 8 years of Josh's career and in spite of us investing heavily in your defensive vision, your defenses always choke in the playoffs" You're fired.

i love it. I will say I don’t think Rapp or Johnson would have been released if McDermott was still here. JMO

There's zero doubt in my mind that TJ would still be here if McDermott was still here. I would hope that he wasn't so overly-loyal to Rapp but who knows?

The problem wasn't McDermott pointing out roster flaws. The problem was McDermott trying to shirk his own responsibility for the team's failures to get over the hump. Stuff like not directly saying "yes" when a reporter asked him if he believed this was a Super Bowl roster. That routine got very old very fast. Obviously a roster turnover was happening no matter what, that's just a normal NFL offseason.

Specific to your point (bolded) we ALWAYS heard, "the Bills" like their edge players to have length... they like their corners to be good tacklers... they like their DTs to be quick penetrators... they like their LBs to be able to swarm to the ball... the Bills like to run a zone system... the Bills have a bend but don't break philosophy...

McDermott clearly had a hard-on for Ed Oliver and took him above Quinnen Williams, Dexter Lawrence, and Jeffery Simmons.

It's obvious that McDermott's philosophies and fingerprints are all over this mediocre defense and that player personnel tried to placate him with the types of players he wanted.

But for some posters here, any players that didn't work out are exclusively Beane's fault, not McDermott's.

You just cant pay a kicker 5 million.  I would honestly draft one in the 5th round just to save the money.

Just re-sign Prater and let the punter kick off

Not shocking, Rapp at his cap number wasn’t gonna cut it here. A very frustrating 2025 season as he showed to be a solid backup in 2023 and a decent starter in 2024 but injury seemed to derail his 2025.

Bills will likely go after the safety from Denver to fill in that role and maybe a draft pick at 126 or 166-167 to add some depth and development there.

I’m more surprised about this than I am about Johnson. And definitely more disappointed. I actually kinda like Rapp. Hopefully this is a sigh that the new DC thinks Hancock can be an every down S and we have our two young pieces back there for a long time
