Something about that feels like a dirty they wouldn't do to Taron, but I could be wrong. No Johnson can sign immediately with another team starting when his release gets processed Quote

So I'm thinking they wanted him to take a pay cut and he said no thanks? I think some normative coach speak got misinterpreted here, specifically around the plans for him at Safety. It's not totally implausible, as I think he might work out there. Prime Taron Johnson at nickel was sensational. 1 Quote
notpolian Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Taron was a great contributor and a solid guy, or so it seemed. He was really valuable as the 5th DB for several years. However he has definitely fallen off and his lack of size is even a bigger problem with less mobility. A logical move but a sad day. 1 Quote
Dillenger4 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Great Bill! Good luck Taron, we will miss you. But like McD... it was time.... Quote

Magox Posted March 6 Posted March 6 First and foremost thank you to Taron for all the great play and memorable moments. A true leader of men on this defense. In terms of these pre-June 1 cuts, yes there is less savings but they are taking the dead cap hits right now. Which means that next year they will be completely off the books, my guess is that the Bills think they can do enough restructures between Allen, Spencer Brown and other moves such as releases, extensions, paycuts etc to make the room necessary this year and by taking the dead cap hits right now on some of these contracts makes it easier to manage the cap next year. I'm thinking they believe they can make the necessary moves and still not have to make painful cuts next year. Quote
Shaw66 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 It's a cruel business. It ends so quickly for these guys. You're part of the heart of team one season, gone the next. Thanks to the man who made the nickel corner a starting position in the NFL. Quote
MJS Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Remember how he made a comment about how he was excited for the new season and his role on the team after talking with the new DC and everyone took that to mean that he was transitioning to safety? Good times. Quote
May Day 10 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Taron was a great player here who delivered one of the greatest moments in franchise history. Quote
skibum Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) He was a great player for many years, and a huge part of the Bills' recent run of success. But this season, it seemed like either his best years were behind him, or he maybe was hiding an injury. It was a big drop-off from '24 to '25. I guess the release was inevitable, but it's always a bummer when this happens! Thank you for some awesome seasons, Taron! Best of luck at your next stop. Edited March 6 by skibum 1 Quote

Let's hope it is a post June 1st designation, because then we save $8.7 million and have only $2.7 in dead money this year. Of course, that means the cap relief doesn't come till then. If it is pre June 1st, we get $1.9 million in cap savings and take on $9.5 million in dead money. https://overthecap.com/player/taron-johnson/7006 Quote

You cannot tell the Buffalo Bills story without Taron Johnson. He’s been a great player for a long time. It’s sad when the end comes but wish him the best in his next stop. 1 Quote
GoBills808 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Great player for us Took a ton of punishment in his role and imo it caught up to him last 1.5 seasons The knock on him was always his avg coverage abilities but nobody had more heart than Taron Johnson 3 Quote
Bill from NYC Posted March 6 Posted March 6 All I can say is uh oh, I hope that this does not indicate dreadful handwriting on the wall for our first round draft pick. There is however a ray of hope now that McDermott is thankfully gone. Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Age and injury. Sad but we all saw the decline He made arguably the second best play in franchise history woth his pick six against the Ravens. Quote
