They don’t have to wait until June 1st to cut you. The Bills can cut him now, designate him a June 1st cut but then can’t use that savings until then

They don’t have to wait anymore. They can just designate him post June 1.

I know they don't have to wait, but if they designate him as a post June 1 cut, doesn't that mean that Taron won't be able to sign with another team until after June 1st?

Something about that feels like a dirty they wouldn't do to Taron, but I could be wrong.

Has anyone pointed out that in his only two offseason trades for WRs, both of the players Beane traded for went to Maryland?

It's funny, because while they are very different as people, they're actually pretty comparable as players. Moore is very much in that Diggs/Cooper/Mclaurin vein as a #1 receiver, IMO.

6', 200-210 lbs, 4.4 guy with good explosion, runs good routes and has good to great hands.

I think DJ Moore is more of a versatile player than Diggs, Cooper or Mclaurin.  Those guys were all route running savants.  Moore is probably a step down on the route running but is a step up in almost everything else.  Plus, he's much more physically stacked than the other guys... especially Diggs and Mclauran

How?

Are you sure?  Logistically that doesn't seem to make sense to me if they're technically still under contract with the team through June 1st.

His 100 yard pick 6 at the COVID Ravens playoff game is one of my favorite moments from any game I've attended over the past 45 years.

Looking forward to the time when he'll be the "legend of the game" at the new stadium, pumping up the fans just before the kickoff.

Was gonna quote kirbs here but didn't find it.

Re: Knox. I think the Bills not having leaked anything is a good sign for restructure or outright cut. Whispers he would be cut would help get a trade initiated.

What's the cap savings?

I love Taron, one of my favorite Bills players in the McDermott era.  But he really slowed down last year.  It was very noticeable to me.

He was already showing signs of decline in 2024. Excellent player for us but this is a no brainer

They’re not technically on the team. This is a relatively new development. I think that you can only designate 2 guys or something as post June 1.

Diggs, maybe.  But Cooper and McLaurin are far more comparable HWS.

100% - Taron Johnson would be free and clear to sign with whomever he wanted, as soon as he wanted if he were a 6/1 cut today.

However on the flip side, we would not see any cap savings on.any June 1st designated cut until after 6/1.

The purpose of the “designation of a June 1st cut” was so that players could sign and hit the market sooner when teams have their cap space. Under the old system a bunch of vets would get cut on June 1st or 2nd and there wouldn’t be much space out there for teams to sign those players. Even though the teams don’t access the cap space until June 1st at least the players can get out on the market sooner

Right. It’s a very common sense win-win. Player and team both move on without having to pretend otherwise for 3 months. Team ultimately gets the same cap savings as if they waited, but those savings don’t kick in until June 1st.

Idk about a win win, doesn't do much for the team but it's the right thing to do for a veteran player that's been an important part of the team for years.

Was this really worth only the 1.9 mil savings?

Yes, he is not in our plans, and we are doing right by Taron by letting him go now.
