Billsfanatic8989 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Just as the question poses. It's unlikely to happen. But if it did, how do you think the city and region would support them. In terms of TV ratings, sponsorships, attendance, and overall attention? The Bills will always be number one. But a contending NBA team might surpass the Sabres in popularity. 6 Quote
Herc11 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I know Buffalo had a team a long time ago, but I just don't think it's a basketball city. Also, with so much of the people already heavily invested in the Sabres and the Bills, there's only so much money to go around. Are people going to be able to afford NBA tickets to go along with their higher priority sports? 6 Quote
Playoffs? Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Agree the Bills will be the heart and soul of Buffalo… but if the Sabres can continue this run, and make their way back to being relevant, I don’t see an NBA team upending them. Buffalo is a football and hockey town… But wouldn’t that be something if we brought in an NBA team and quickly won a national championship? Quote
PetermansRedemption Posted March 5 Posted March 5 (edited) The last time Buffalo had an NBA team they were ran out of town by Canisius…. Should tell you all you need to know. Edited March 5 by PetermansRedemption 1 Quote
JohnnyCash Posted March 5 Posted March 5 That ship sailed long ago. The NBA isn’t anything close to what it was with Bird, Magic & Jordan. 3 point shot and dunks. Woo hoo, what a game. 7 1 1 Quote
Old Coot Posted March 5 Posted March 5 In the 1970s Buffalo had the Buffalo Braves. They never made much money because Buffalo was a college basketball town: Canisius, Niagara, St Bonnie. 1 Quote
corta765 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 No. You either have the Sabres or a basketball team, the market is not big enough for both. The Braves had their shot and got screwed because of arena priority being given to the Sabres for all primetime and weekend games. I think Buffalo could be a good basketball market as it supports it's teams well, but realistically it will never happen. 2 1 Quote
BarleyNY Posted March 5 Posted March 5 At its core Buffalo is a hockey town. No way would there be enough interest in an NBA team that shares the same season unless that team was at the top of the league. 1 Quote
ToGoGo Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Could we be an MLB town might be a better question. 1 1 1 1 Quote
Simon Posted March 5 Posted March 5 That league is a uninspiring mess and I doubt a new team in the rust belt would do very well. 1 9 Quote
DrDawkinstein Posted March 5 Posted March 5 No, not even close. 4 minutes ago, ToGoGo said: Could we be an MLB town might be a better question. That IS a better question, and even that is a big no. 2 Quote

The fact we were a Little 3 college basketball city actually complimented pro ball here. 3 Quote
MJS Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I haven't watched the NBA since Michael Jordan was still playing. It is a completely different sport these days. I completely hate the ISO and 3-point style of game it is today, plus the constant traveling, double dribbling, gather step BS, and other blatant disregarding of the rules. 1 1 Quote

My older-timer boss called Jordan: Michael "Walk" Jordan... AND he was from Chicago...😆 Jordan started the crap. 1 Quote

Considering the bills predate the sabres and we had professional football franchises here in the '20s and the 30s Buffalo is absolutely a football Town first I am a fan of the sabres and they are popular but Buffalo is not a hockey town over a football town Not in merchandise sales not in ticket sales.. you can just walk around the city and ask a hundred people do they like the sabres or the bills more and you will absolutely get more Buffalo Bills fans The 20 years of bad play for the bills still had the stadium 70 80% filled the last 15 bad years for the sabres there was nights that thing wasn't even 40% capacity Edited March 5 by Buffalo716 2 1 1 Quote
boyst Posted March 5 Posted March 5 No. Not as the NBA is in its current state. Viewership is falling fast by trend line but gained some recent steam to look a little better. It's. A joke of itself and the sport of the game anyway. Hopefully when LeFlop retires integrity can return to the sport. Buffalo could not support it. Quote

I think we are both a football and a hockey town. I wouldn't want to decide between them. Quote
