Ethan in Cleveland Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Colts placing the transition tag on Jones. $36M for one year Can someone that has followed him more closely explain this to me? He was a bust with the Giants. He was ok with the Colts but seemed to be regressing as the season went along. Now coming off Achilles tear. Who would keep this guy? No way I'm paying $36M for a single season amd no way I would sign him to a long term deal. Quote
ColoradoBills Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Right now, that puts him at 17 on the QB AAV list. Colts are not getting a QB in the draft. What else can they do? Only other choice is to tank. There are a lot of teams chasing a few "not so good" QBs right now. 1 3 Quote
NoSaint Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Seems like you could’ve had better value but maybe just a placeholder while negotiating something 2-3 years 1 Quote
MrEpsYtown Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I mean what are their other options? Kyler Murray? Jones as a UFA would be a pretty hot commodity, he’s probably the new Kirk Cousins. Jones played very well for the Colts and the Vikings wanted to keep him. He, like Sam Darnold, got a raw deal in NY and struggled under the pressure there. He took an awful team to the playoffs and then was the scapegoat for their shortcomings. Is he overpaid? yeah probably, but he’s improved and fit well in that offensive scheme. 1 Quote
Captain Hindsight Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Vikes thought he was coming back. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had some interest Quote
James Can Cook Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Trying to avoid what happened to the Vikings and Darnold. He’s their best shot at a franchise QB for the moment and has already produced as a Colt. 2 Quote

BarleyNY Posted March 4 Posted March 4 They have nothing else at QB. This gives them a competent QB for one more year and no commitment beyond that. Heck, AZ is paying Kyler Murray the same to not play QB for them this year. 2 1 Quote
H2o Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Daboll and Saquon made this guy rich. Now he pulls the wool over the Colts' eyes and gets them to drop a $36m Transition Tag on him? He better ask Usain Bolt for a piggyback ride to sign that. Putting that Duke education to work The Art of Finessing: 1 1 Quote

I'd argue calling him competent is a stretch. And now coming off major injury. Makes no sense. 1 4 Quote

Jones played well within the Colts' system and it is entirely unknown if anyone else on that list can do the same. I do agree on the uncertainty of his health but if he comes back healed , they know where the floor is 2 Quote
Walking Tall Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Mediocre QB in the NFL. Not a bad gig if you can get it. He makes more than Justin Jefferson. Quote
947 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 This is insanity. Nobody else was gonna sign Jones coming off a late season achilles tear, he had no market. He won't be close to ready for Week 1 & may never regain form even when he does come back. Weird move by the Colts. Quote

I mean as a quarterback he's going to be way more ready than any position Whether or not he's worth 30 million is your organization's opinion I mean our defensive pass rusher tore his Achilles and he's probably going to be ready in September or October and that's a way more physical position than quarterback Quote
RichRiderBills Posted March 4 Posted March 4 its easily explained by the fact the Colts have no clue what they are doing. 2 1 Quote
Don Otreply Posted March 4 Posted March 4 It is so entertaining how owners brag to one another by how much money they pay for mediocrity at the QB position, just look at Jones Tua, the guy who just got cut in Arizona, etc etc, lol, Quote
The Cincinnati Kid Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Jones probably isn’t getting $36m on the open market, but, the Vikings (as others have mentioned) may be willing to pay a guy they know and who has shown he can at least be serviceable at the position. JJ needs a guy who is at least serviceable. So the Colts have the right to match any offer and then it’s in DJ’s hands. Good for him! Make that money, son! Quote
