paulmm3 Posted Tuesday at 04:42 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:42 PM IMO linebacker was our second worst position group to WR last year. Glad to see we're visiting with a decent number of LB Quote
HappyDays Posted Tuesday at 11:28 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:28 PM Weird choice for a top 30 visit, not sure what the thinking is here. Here's Lance Zierlein's summary: Quote Undersized pass-catcher with the ability to expand the route tree and challenge man coverage around the field. Joly still needs to polish his route-running but he has the footwork and athletic traits to uncover. He doesn’t catch with much hand extension and fights throws on occasion but he makes up for it with impressive body control/catch toughness. His effort and strain as a blocker need to improve. Joly has the ability to contribute as a moveable “F” tight end. 2 Quote
HappyDays Posted Tuesday at 11:34 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:34 PM Okay this is a bit out of left field but Justin Joly played with KC Concepcion at NC State in 2024... Could the Bills be gathering intel? Teams will do stuff like that, visit with a player they have no real interest in just to get their opinion on a teammate. Can't make heads or tails of this visit otherwise. 4 Quote

But that would make them picking up his 5th year option somewhat weird. But Knox's new deal means he's not going anywhere and Hawes is a lock. However, sometimes teams will convert a TE to be a FB. Could he be a guy that could take Reggie Gilliam's spot as a FB? Taking him in round 3-4 seems too high for that role. 2 Quote

So the only reasoning I can think of is getting intel on a different prospect. 1 1 Quote

Hes probably intel for Concepcion or possible protection for letting Kincaid go after this season with a trade. A candidate in round 3-4 for the Bills 1 Quote

The Bills started pre-draft visits before Free Agency this year, maybe Joly was also in before FA in case they couldn’t work out a new contract with Knox? Quote

HappyDays Posted Wednesday at 05:58 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:58 PM Lance Zierlein's summary: Quote Orange is a sturdy nose tackle capable of muddying the middle of the field with his first-step quickness and take-on power. His reaction time makes it hard to reach-block him in zone and he has the anchor to play landlord over the A-gaps against double-teams. He gets bounced around on contact but is excellent in recovery and winning the final phase of the rep. Orange is a non-factor as a pass rusher, but his value versus the run should attract teams. Another NT with penetration ability, although definitely more of a pure run stuffer/2 down player and not much pass rush upside to speak of. 2 1 Quote

Lol, I draft him all the time when doing mocks for the Bills. I guess that means I want him here. 1 Quote

Yea Pauline said the Bills also attended his private workout. Per Pauline, His 10-yard split came in between 1.68 and 1.70 seconds, a terrific mark. His short shuttle time of 4.65 seconds was also impressive. https://www.essentiallysports.com/nfl-active-news-iowa-state-dt-dom-orange-works-out-for-ten-nfl-teams-after-quad-injury-kept-him-out-of-predraft-process/ Day 3 guy for me, but those are good times. Bills may have to take him at 91 if they really like him. 4 1 Quote

Glad to see we're visiting with a decent number of LB It's usually a big reason why a defense goes from mediocre/good to great. Pass rush is probably the only other thing that matters as much, but the league throws near the LOS so much now that even that has less of an impact unless you can consistently keep teams in 3rd and long. LBs who can run, tackle, and shed are some of the most important players on defense now. Can stuff rushing attacks, and also prevent YAC. Quote
