corta765 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I find the comments interesting on the offseason plan and the negative thoughts on Moore a bit foolish. The Bills war chest is not huge this offseason, you could argue last year they had more they could work with. I really think too many fans have a pie in the sky expectation for this offseason and much of it is based on the Bills needing to acquire Evans or Brown or a big name player if not two (Crosby/Hendrickson). I completely get the rational but that is the type of thing you can do when your QB is on a rookie deal or you have oodles of cash available which the Bills have neither. Evans would be awesome he has been a favorite of mine for a long time... he also has an expected cap hit of 13mil for 2026 and probably will be higher. If the Bills sign him even with some cap work they still are using upwards of 1/3rd of their entire cap space based off Joe's premise with still a bunch of sizable holes. I am not saying this is a bad idea, but your also not getting Max or Trey at DE if your signing Evans for that much, same for trading for Brown. The Bills offseason will most likely be far closer to what Joe has predicted which is adding quite a few good impact starters but the name is not star level. I do agree that even if they trade for Moore I honestly think they draft another guy round 2-4 to double down also. They can cut Palmer after June 1 and gain a lot of space at that point if they add 2 WRs this offseason As for Moore all the guy has done is 4 x 1000 yard seasons in 8 years & average 5-6 TDs yearly while playing with dog sh*t at QB. Additionally he is the exact type of WR that the Bills need in style and would mesh quite well with what Josh does well passing. The cap hit is also manageable and god forbid he turns into a lemon he is not hard to get rid of. Oh and the cost for him is far cheaper then Brown which allows the team to have more picks for the draft which again helps fix more holes. I expect the WR addition to be far more something like Moore or Rashid Shaheed + a 1/st2nd Rnd WR then a much larger name at this point. 2 3 Quote

He is a baller. Could put up big numbers will Allen. He is a separator with good speed as for Mike Evans or any big name we go after…void years and be used to lower the cap hit this season. So you might pay Mike Evans 2 years 30 mil, but with void years bring his cap down 5 1 1 Quote

Maybe Joe is just hoping for more fodder for his friends on the WGR morning show? All in all, I like most of it. That list of external FA signings would be ridiculous if Beane pulled it off. I'm less thrilled on that draft tho. IMO, we need to add a vet WR via trade/FA, AND draft a WR in the 1st. Then go defense the rest of the way with whatever Leonhard needs. If Beane can hit on 1 WR and 2-3 Defenders (1 at each level of Defense), then we cake walk to the SB. The idea of drafting ZERO WRs, and just bringing in DJ Moore (and vastly overpaying the Bears for him in the process) as the only WR move is simply laugh-out-loud ridiculous. 1 3 Quote

HappyDays Posted March 2 Posted March 2 11 minutes ago, ngbills said: Not to mention paying Moore $25M each of the next two years. That won't happen. Moore only has $15.5M guaranteed after this season. If we trade for him we'll convert his base salary into a signing bonus as part of a new lower AAV extension that also lowers his cap hits for the next few seasons. Moore will gladly accept it in exchange for more guarantees. I theorized something like 4 years $80M with $40M guaranteed. The big cap hits won't be due until 2029 and presumably a void year in 2039. 2 1 1 Quote

They REALLY spread it around under Ben Johnson last year -- definitely an "everybody eats" philosophy with fairly heavy involvement by the TEs (similar to the Bills, actually). No one had 60 catches, actually. Also, it's worth noting that in the biggest games -- the playoffs -- Moore had 11 catches and 2 TDs in two games, leading the team in the latter and one behind Colston Loveland, who had 12 catches, in the former. We need to execute better (on both sides of the field) and get the lucky calls/no calls routinely bestowed upon our opponents. We don’t “need” an elite WR. Sure, I’d love to have one, but if our defense plays well, we’d be fine adding a DJ Moore to the leagues 3rd highest scoring offense. Seattle was rarely, if ever, regarded as best team in the nfl prior to week 10 or so this season. Their defensive line wreaked havoc. Our defensive line hasn’t wreaked havoc in over a decade. And that’s why we still don’t have a Lombardi Quote

You’d still have plenty of resources for defense & OL. I don’t know why they’d deal him. 1 Quote
dave mcbride Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 2 hours ago, T.E. said: A draft with zero offensive players taken. Did this writer forget that McDermott was fired? ??? - major draft capital and money was traded for DJ Moore in this scenario. Look up Moore’s production and also the Bills cap situation relative to other teams (before, for instance, concocting fantasy trades of Justin Jefferson to the Bills). Quote

Its always funny how after the draft GMs talk about each pick like they were BPA, and also just happen to fit their needs. Obviously I'm not pushing to pick any WR even if it means reaching for bad talent. But we should be doing all we can to address it as early as possible. If BPA is TE or RB (or QB), we arent going BPA. Anything else is a need really and could be argued either way. 1 Quote
