ColoradoBills Posted February 16 Posted February 16 (edited) Milano, Bosa, McGovern, Epenesa and Jones's Voids expire today. They can still be re-signed (they will be UFAs) but I'm pretty sure their Dead Money stays dead. Ogunjobi's Void expires 3/10/2026. EDIT: Teams and players can agree to extend the Void date up to just before the League Year starts. That would have to happen today. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/overview Edited February 17 by ColoradoBills 1 5 Quote
Kirby Jackson Posted February 16 Posted February 16 That’s how I understand it too. I think if any of those guys were going to be back it would be done by now. Maybe McGovern is an exception, but someone like Milano, you would have rolled in lowering his cap number. At least IMO 1 4 Quote
ColoradoBills Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 I find this interesting because of McGovern. If a new contract is not signed today, they can't spread his $4.8M over the new contract if he is re-signed later. Really looks like Milano, Bosa and of course Jones are gone. Epenesa is only $2.8M so it doesn't affect him much. 1 1 Quote

And what are they gonna do...give up more rushing yards a game? There's not a player on that list I think we will truly miss. And there happens to be free agency and a whole draft to upgrade. I have a lot of concerns for next year. The defense being worse doesn't even blip on the radar 5 3 1 Quote

Steptide Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Why not re sign him and re structure? He played pretty solid the back half of the season Quote

He played pretty solid the back half of the season That's kind of the point of the thread. If he doesn't re-sign today, you cannot restructure the $4.8M Void money. If you are talking about McGovern. Personally, I gave it a little more than 50/50 he would still be a Bill. That's looking less right now. Edited February 16 by ColoradoBills Quote

Kirby Jackson Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Really good thread @ColoradoBills and thanks for sharing. This is interesting for sure. I figured that the Bills would bring a couple of these guys back and try to spread that void money. Milano was always the most obvious to me as his number is the biggest. It was never obvious if he’d be back but I would think that today is the last day that it’s even really possible. 1 Quote
Tuco Posted February 16 Posted February 16 FWIW today is a federal holiday. I believe that means the NFL office is closed and by default any deadlines extend until tomorrow. But I've been wrong before. Quote

It's hard to tell if the Bills didn't pursue anything with these guys OR they are looking for way more money as UFAs. I can see that with McGovern. Milano, Epenesa and Bosa probably are a scheme situation (although I leave that to you guys who know more about that stuff). I'm now interested how they handle Anderson and RVD's RFAs. Quote
folz Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Youth movement! And of course we don't know who Leonard thinks fits his system and who doesn't, etc. So there may be some casualties for that reason too. But... DaQuan Jones is 34 (16 missed games over the last three years) Milano is 31/32 (28 missed games over the last three years) Bosa is 30/31 (13 games missed over the last three years; 25 missed games over the last 4 years) [Current age/age at the start of next season---for Milano and Bosa] May be a "better to let them go a year too early than a year too late" type of scenario, if you have an out. Epenesa is a decent player, but no one you want to over spend on. And seems like the type of player that would leave in a change over also. Good but replaceable with a similar "Leonard" guy. McGovern is interesting. He is only 28. He has been pretty durable in Buffalo (only 2 missed games over the last 3 years). Made the Pro Bowl in '24. Definitely seems like a player you would want to keep around. But then I have no idea about his contract/money he will command. We drafted C Van Pran-Granger in 2024. He'll be going into his third year next season. Do the Bills think he is ready to take over? Obviously, he's the cheaper option---still on his rookie contract. Not sure where he is in his progression, but sitting behind McGovern and learning from Kromer for two years should hopefully be a good thing. Also, Milano, Bosa, Epenesa, and McGovern are 4 of our top 6 free agents with the highest market value per Sporttrac. So, you probably aren't resigning them on the cheap. Would the price equal availability and production on the field? 1 1 3 Quote

jahnyc Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I do think that assuming none of these players sign new contracts today (or tomorrow if the signing period is extended because of the holiday) than they are likely not back with the Bills. A bit surprising with McGovern since I thought he would be back (and still might be, but losing $4.8 in cap space is not insignificant and suggests a different outcome). Quote

It's a date in a legal contract. It's today. I'm guessing that Beane and his boys have given their offer and McGovern thinks he can make way more on the open market. 2 Quote
