So many bad contracts on the books…good luck turning this roster around to match a new DC

They need like 2 maybe 3 players to change the defense around. A good coach creates a scheme that plays to its players strengths. Something that Leonhard said he would do.

Shocked if anyone disagrees and this is a place that can split on nearly anything

This. I’d say restructuring Josh and Spencer Brown comes right after. Those 4 decisions are probably the minimum that they need to do to “function.”

The Bills barely have any bad contracts and have none that are crippling. Their money is tied up in their best players still playing well. That’s what you want.

Now if they rework Dawkins and he falls off a cliff, that could become a troubling contract in the future. Bernard looks like a bad contract but they CAN get out next year but certainly the year after.

What if Leonhard discovers that their strength really is dropping back in shell coverages, missing tackles, asking for inopportune timeouts, and getting injured in practice. Then what? 😉

More than one way to skin a cat. Lull them into false confidence that ends up being true, lol. Many moves ahead.

Then let Wizard Beane put some lipstick on them, and market them as potential assets on SOT.

(Some Other Team) 😁

That's the mystery of Beane. I can't see McClappy  asking for these bum receivers or suggesting  contract numbers.

There just too many head scratching contracts up and down the roster.

I can see overpaying during the drought but people want to come here and stay here. Get a discount not an overpay.

I'm sure I'm in the minority with this opinion, but it seems the Taylor Rapp hate, especially from Joe Marino is way overdone. To be clear, I'm not saying we need to keep him for 2026 or that he is a clear fit for what Leonhard is looking for to pair with Bishop, but even Marino recently acknowledged that Rapp had played well in 2024.

In my opinion, the McDermott regime was totally focused on getting Bishop & Rapp in sync through the 2025 offseason because they felt this was the best way to allow Bishop to take a step. Unfortunately, they really didn't have a solid plan B, so when Rapp hurt his knee in preseason, they stuck with him even though he just could not perform any where near the required level.  For sure his play was very hard to watch before he went to IR, but I have a hard time hating him for trying to play through the injury even though he was far away from 100%. I put this more on the coaches, since they should have better understood his physical limitations much earlier than they did.  I also get that many people will never get past the "friendly fire" injuries he caused, but he seemed to really clean that part up in 2024 and would have expected that to continue in 2025 and beyond.

I agree that releasing him and using the $3m for a better fit to pair with Bishop is probably the right move, but I don't see the need to crap on him to this degree as he leaves. Normally, Marino is very objective in his player critiques, but in this case, it feels there is a blind spot that he can't overcome.

Samuels, definitely, but I guess depends on the salary aspects.

But not Rapp, he can be a good backup, played well at times, though does not have the size or physical tools to be a good starting safety.  Here too, depends on the salary though.

See ya! Buh Bye! Thanks for Nothing!

@Chandler#81 You know, I mostly agree; however, that one Rapp INT sealed the deal against Tuna and the Phish... I'll give Rapp that one play, and nothing is else.

Cutting Samuel saves over $6M of cap space and cutting Rapp saves over $3M. Both are almost certainly gone. For that $3M of savings (maybe even less) on Rapp you can bring in PJ Locke to play the same role. He’s already shown that he can play in Leonhard’s defense. He can start or be the 3rd S.

And won’t injure the better players around him
