Years ago Steve Tasker and I both happened to be at the same conference (church related) and I sat with him at dinner one evening (a table for 8 at the Adam's Mark Hotel).  My wife spent a week with his wife and daughters.

That's cool! Great family indeed!

I'm still on the fence, I love that it was Brady and my source who is in media and around Buffalo for years said they wanted Brady, I posted this the day after McD was fired..So I'm glad they got their guy

I just always felt we're literally 1 or 2 plays away EVERY year and had tremendous regular seasons,  a great culture and discipline, minus 2020 and Cincy and idk if that's a coaching issue

Many years ago I had drinks with Matt Kofler (RIP).  At the time he was married to a girl I went to HS with,  and we met out during the holidays when we were in town.  He was drafted my senior year of HS and I remember being psyched when it happened bc randomly I had a San Diego Aztecs t-shirt from Champion that I used to wear all the time 😛

He was a cool guy - I made a point to not pepper him with questions about the Bills so really there wasn't any real Bills discussion to speak of.  One thing I do remember was that he said Ben Baby Williams was a real character

Used to workout with a bills scout down in charlotte. He works for the lions now. The only time he ever texted me during a draft was when mark barron got drafted early cause that was his guy and they wanted him. Ended up with Gilmore lol

Didn’t know that he passed.  Couldn’t have been more than in his 40’s.  😞

The actual players selected in the draft is much more of a group decision than being all on Beane.

That much we knew from Terry throwing Joe Brady under the bus for banging on the table for Keon lol.

I’ve heard the same thing from a very high ranking Bills official at the time. When this guy had a couple of cocktails, he talked (a lot). The Bills thought they had a deal worked out to trade up for Barron. They saw him as this hybrid that would revolutionize the defense. They settled on Gilmore.

When I heard about that it made me think there was probably some truth to the players being aware McDermott's job wasn't safe and hence all of the emotion Josh displayed post game.

Doesn't seem like Terry was keeping this secret too close to his vest behind the scenes

There was a desperate energy all throughout the game too. I bet McD told them pregame that it might be his last. That was the weirdest game I’ve ever watched.

They got lucky basically!

I worked with Chris Shilling for an industrial inspection company based out of Buffalo for a few years before he took the job with the Bills. I ran the Jacksonville Florida office. Great guy!

Maybe slightly off topic , but anyway . my oldest daughter and her family reside near Lansdale Pa , outside of Philly.. she and my youngest granddaughter were at a diner , granddaughter , who was 11 at the time had her #17 Allen jersey on.. An older couple approached them, the man had a Bills cap on .. asked if they were Bills fans.. they said yea, originally from Buffalo, the man told them his son  Sean, is the coach.. they couldnt believe it , both of his parents were so nice , asked where they were from..they told them Hamburg. Mrs McDermott then went on and on how much they love that area .. they get up their lots on visits  .. Very down to earth , sweet people.. That is why the firing stung a bit harder for my family..

A friend of mine that works in the league (not the Bills) told me that people around the league thought that McD should have been gone after 2024.  He was too locked into his scheme on defense, imposed unnecessary restrictions on offensive game plans, and stuck with older players when it was obvious that it was time to cut bait.

My friend did say that McD and the Bills staff were good instructors that developed young players well.  He also told me that the state of head coaching around the league continues to get better but some teams just keep making bad decisions ( Jets, Cardinals, Miami ).  He believes that McD won't get a HC opportunity with a decent franchise down the road.

Old players: he wanted to go out with what he knew and what got him there. He couldn’t let go of that terrible defense, which tells you he had become delusional, paranoid, etc.

Best I can do:  I know a photographer who takes pictures on the sidelines of Bills home games for USA Today.  That doesn't give me any insights to the inner workings of the Bills.

Harry Scull Jr.?!?  The guy whose photos proved O.J. did  own those 'ugly ass shoes'! 😁

No, his name is Mark Konezny.  He's a retired Kodak employee working as an independent contractor for USA Today.
