I kind of feel like Fox wont even live here and be a remote resource.  Maybe show up for TC and a few weeks throughout year.  I just cant see him living in Buffalo at 71 years old and putting in coaching hours.

Most likely rents a house and leases a car.  He flies back and forth from his home and stays in OP when needed.

I don't know if he will live in Buffalo and work full-time, but I think he can.

I'm employed at the age of 67.  I don't put in "coaching hours" but I work 50-60 hours a week when the situation demands.  And when I'm not working, I ride my bike, run, take long hikes in the mountains, and do household chores.  I'm not sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch with a lame, old mutt on one side and a walking cane on the other.  Give us old warriors some credit!

Do any "Senior Assistants" actually work full time on site around the NFL?

That's pretty decent for a staff of a first time HC. A few of those guys were pretty hot names this cycle. No clue how it will translate on the field, but a lot of pretty good "gets" IMO. Lots of guys that taught at the college level.

No idea honestly.  I know a guy like Frazier in Seattle was essentially an everyday coach

I think it's a fairly broad role without a standard definition that covers a LOT of various roles they would fill and not a specific role so I would assume it's handled many different ways depending on how much input they are expected to provide and how involved they are expected to be.

I resemble that remark.  Although I am retired.  LOL.

Sounds like friends and family gig there. Why do you need 24 coaches

AI Overview

An average NFL team has approximately

15 to 24 coaches on staff. This includes one head coach, various coordinators (offensive, defensive, and special teams), position-specific coaches (e.g., QB, WR, DL, DB), and strength and conditioning staff. Coaching staffs have grown in recent years, with some teams exceeding 20 coaches.

Key details regarding NFL coaching staff numbers:

Composition: A typical team employs specialists for specific positions, including quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, and defensive back coaches.

Total Staff Size: While some reports suggest a typical staff of around 15–20, recent data shows the average in 2023 was over 23 coaches.

Offensive vs. Defensive: In 2023, offensive staffs averaged 10.8 coaches, while defensive staffs averaged 8.8.

Variability:

While most teams have a large staff, some have fewer; for example, the New England Patriots previously operated with a smaller staff of 18.

Congrats!  I wish I could retire.

On the other hand, I enjoy working.  If I were a 71-year-old ex-coach, I'd want a job as a senior assistant, too.  I like to stay busy and feel productive.  Fox isn't going to make any meaningful decisions, but I think he'll add some value.

I finally have time to do all the projects inside and outside my house.  It keeps me busy.
