When the Bills practically forced New England to beat us in the 2024 season finale, it cost them the #1 overall pick.  They dropped to #4… and picked OT Will Campbell.
And imagine if they had traded out of #1 and gotten Tyler Warren, McMillan, or some other stud.
A small flicker of satisfaction.

McD completely figured Drake Maye out in our second game of the season and he put it on tape for the rest of the NFL.

Other teams have actually mentioned it.

They probably would have taken Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter if had a higher pick or maybe traded down if the offer was attractive enough.

It feels like he did this a lot... Lamar Jackson, Tua Tagovailoa, and Drake Maye come to mind.

Hell, even the blueprint for Mahomes, just couldn't do it on the playoff stage.

Yep.

Way better coach than some posters give him credit for.

Yeah, I thought this thread was going to be about how McDermott played Vic Fangio's Cover 6 against Drake Maye and completely shut down the Pat's offense.

There's about a dozen online articles about how after that game, everyone starting playing Cover 6 against New England, regardless of whether it fit their scheme or not.

Maye turned into a pumpkin real fast, but the Pats D was just that good.

After decades of either missing a great draft pick by one guy, or choosing some bum right before a future All Pro, it feels kind of satisfying that MAYBE the Pats had some similar misfortune.

That’s true, by playing a lot of Cover 6. While Seattle played the most C6 of any team this season, in the SB they leaned into blitzing Maye with man coverage behind. Ofc that might’ve been an issue for Maye. I’m sure NE prepared for a lot of C6 and Seattle didn’t give it to them.

I would assume they would have traded with a QB-needy team, so probably either Tennessee or Indy or maybe the Jets/Giants.  They would still end up top 10 most likely but who knows exactly.

I'll take this iota of comfort, along with their picking next to last in the draft and having a rigorous schedule next year, instead of powder-puff matchups. Bonus: They also now know perfectly well, as does every rational fan and pundit, that their season was a no more than a series of lucky flukes, and they had no business being in the Super Bowl.

Still small comfort.

The Bills third round pick, Landon Jackson, supposedly got the best of Campbell in their collegiate matchup, too. But that same guy couldn’t do anything in a McD defense.

This dude may have been hurting from the start, he never looked right last season.  Maybe he’s another draft flop I guess we’ll see

soon enough.

I want to see him after a year of watching from the sidelines and training with an NFL team. He looked like the tin man trying to rush the passer. Hopefully he's got some bend in those legs this year.

I wouldn't say completely, As I recall we got behind 0-21, and 7-24 - then Josh put on his cape at halftime.  Henderson also showed that McD's run defense continued to be a house of cards.

Seems like they always wanted Campbell, but trading  down from #1 would have been the move for them… Mayo winning really screwed them

LOL look at Maye’s stats in the second half of that football game?  Some of you are so biased.

The same plan (Cover 6) has been replicated in each playoff and has mostly neutralized the success that Maye had early in the season.

100% and people will find that out real fast.  There is a place where you can admit he’s a great coach but maybe not the one to get to a championship.

Instead some of the fans here would rather pretend he’s some horrible coach

It feels more and more like the Monday - Saturday label fits him very well. He may be one of the best in the game on those days, but probably trended closer to average with Sunday decision making.

He's still a top 5-10 coach in the league.
