UConn James Posted February 9 Posted February 9 (edited) Boomer Esiason on WFAN breaks down how because the SB was played in California, Sam Darnold had to pay $240K over a 7-day stay due to CA's "Jock Tax" of 3.5% (compounded daily? I'm not sure how it's calculated) and made $178(?)K for being on the winning team. A net negative of $71K. He had to pay to play in the SB. Sure, guys make bank in their regular season contracts that winkwinknodnod includes pay for the playoffs. But for guys making league minimum, that is a sizable chunk out of their take-home. Boomer says the NFLPA needs to do something about this and possibly push to not have future SBs in California. Edited February 9 by UConn James 4
Your Brown Eye Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Does this mean we have to donate 17 cents to a charity of his choice now? 3

milfandcookies Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I mean in theory this is true, and yeah it’s BS but I’m sure Darnold has an incredible accountant and he/she will work magic that it doesn’t matter but yeah it’s not right

Big Turk Posted February 10 Posted February 10 But how is he actually earning money when he isn't playing?

Accountants are the reason that people like Elon Musk don’t pay any tax, on hundreds of millions of dollars in income. We have a trillion dollar defense budget. That money, doesn’t grow on trees. 1 1
bills6969 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Not sure how he survives this. Who has the link to the gofundme? 1

st pete gogolak Posted February 10 Posted February 10 This is misleading in the sense that every state that has a state income tax taxes athletes based on games played in the state. Football, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc. and it’s not just the Super Bowl. Not saying it’s fair but it’s not just Darnold, not just the Super Bowl and not just California. 4 2
