Not only was he Jase-o-Matic generating the only points in the game thru 3Q and 15 points overall (double what Seattle's offense scored)

4th Q 5:35 left.  Seattle has just scored on his FG after a Drake Maye interception; making it 22-7.  He kicks off 65 yds.

TreVayon Henderson returns it.  He is motoring up the sideline with a full head of steam and a bone in his teeth like a Navy destroyer.

Jason Myers takes him out with a tackle so strong the folks I was watching with didn't believe it was the kicker who laid that lick.
Then we started talking about whether he should be MVP.

Can't quarrel with the MVP choice, but I would like to nominate Jason Myers for Unsung Seattle Superbowl Badass

I mean to be fair, they were all very short FGs for the most part. Especially in this day and age where anything under 60 yards is automatically within range most times.

He’s a beast and had a hell of a game.

His FGs were from 33, 39, 41, 41, and 26 yards.

I think if a couple of those were from 50+ (maybe even just replacing 26 with a 50+), it would have been difficult to not give him the MVP.

Myers did a great job.. and so did the Seattle head coach because he TOOK THE POINTS.  No reason to re-invent the winning recipe.  Take the points especially in playoff games.  People forget that failed 4th down conversions are the same result as a fumble or interception.  It's a turnover.

Bass would've shanked one of them for sure, though. Knowing that they were automatic was a big advantage in regard to their gameplanning.

Their punter was fantastic as well. Just a soldier coached team at all angles. Baltimore is probably kicking themselves for letting Macdonald go.

I think you over-estimate the automatic nature of FG over 50 yds

Not 100% sure, but I think if Myers doesn't make that tackle on the kickoff return, there's a reasonably good chance Patriots score on that possession

And if it's a 14 or 15-22 game it looks very different.

Not saying over 50 is automatic, I am saying the attempt is automatic. But it's approaching that as in 2025, 50-59 yard FGs were hit at an NFL record 74.1% rate and even kicks over 60 yards were hit at a better than 50/50 rate of 54.5%(12 for 22).

So it might not be as automatic as a 38 yard FG, but it isn't that far away either anymore.

IMO, kickers have improved the most out of any position in the NFL over the last 10-20 years and it isn't even close.

Good job by Seattle understanding the game they were in and taking the points. They were one failed 4th down conversion or Darnold INT away from letting the Patriots back in that game. The conservative approach was absolutely the right call and they stuck with it the entire game.

Coaches need to know when to be conservative and when to be aggressive. The aggressive approach is not always the right approach.

And the kicker did his job. Great game by him.

Great hit.  The FGs turned out to be not (all of them) meaningful, given the way the Defense was abusing Maye.

I think going up 12-0 was meaningful because it made it a 2-score game. Ot took a young, inexperienced QB with a turnstile at LT and forced him onto a more predictable offense.

Brought a tear to my eye, it did.

It was … it was beautiful.

Jason Myers... undrafted in 2013.

They're out there... you just gotta find 'em and you don't have to burn a draft pick for one either.

A lotta people here wanted the Bills to sign Jake Bates when he was kicking 60+ yard FGs in the UFL 2 seasons ago... the Bills should have signed him.

Now the Lions have him.

I thought the Seattle Punter should have won MVP.  He killed the Patriots...

I was more impressed with their punter.

That may have been one of the best low-key punting performances in Superbowl history.  7 punts, 47.9yd average with 3 (!) pinning the Pats inside their 6-yard line. He only had 2 returned for a total of 4 yards, and handled every FG snap cleanly.
