What if JA was elite and we had a decent D?..........not even a championship caliber D, just decent. I would think JA is going to get his points and that's not even up for debate, but you throw in a decent D that can actually make some stops when needed and this team is rolling.

Obviously, to win games you need to get more points than the other team, but a decent, if not championship caliber D, can limit possessions and help the O by not putting them in the position of having the game on the O's shoulders by "having" to outscore the other team in order to win.

No doubt and we are in agreement. There are multiple ways to win a title. For the Bills, it’s likely because of Josh. If we believe that, we shouldn’t ask him to cover for bad players to make the defense incrementally better. We should start by getting that fastball to 102 and then work on our curve. We shouldn’t work on the curve all offseason and say, “that 97 MPH fastball should be enough.” That’s the way that the Bills are built.

And let’s face it…Darnold left a LOT of points out there, throwing behind receivers and throwing the Pats*** DBs back into the play.  The game should have been a true blowout.

But what Darnold didn’t do ended up being the difference.  He didn’t turn the ball over and managed the game effectively.

I give the Pats D some credit for that. Christian Gonzalez was on fire. Darnold was under quite a bit of stress.

The year before, the Philly D didn't play the same game or style as they did last year.......last year, they understood the assignment and went after Mahomes hard and suffocated him in the pocket.

This year, this new style of Philly D gave up 2 4th Q TDs in a one and done playoffs loss to the 49ers.

You mean the one where Mahomes drove the offense down the field to score the game winning FG in OT after the defense made a stop?

Must be nice to have a QB that can win in OT

It's really what cost McD his job, as much as the other stuff. His D kept getting worse and worse despite significant capital spent.

We were just not going to compete for a championship riding Josh's shoulders alone

Yes, they got some nice pressure and did what they could to keep the game close, but Walker gashed them and, as I noted, Darnold missed a number of throws.

That will be McD's epitaph:  Soft Zone, neutralized pass rush and a comfortable conversion on 3rd and forever.

Last night showed you what a skilled DC does playing chess and not checkers in the big moments.

Setting the tone, being aggressive. It was fun to watch.

Instead I got to watch up play Tampa 2, and CBs 10 yards off the ball, rushing 4 in the final 4 minutes of a game when we were up by 4.

Must be  nice to have a kicker who can make a field goal in the playoffs.

That's this year.......last year in the SB, the D won the game and it's not even debatable.

D wins championships......

Last year, Philly's D absolutely mopped the floor with Mahomes and this year the Sea Chickens D gave NE a good old fashioned out behind the wood pile spanking.

Here's hoping our D turns the corner.

........i'm confident that we'll get our D right this time

Damn right and it all starts up front. We need to add a couple of pass rushers this off-season and big NT to clog up the middle. Beane should do everything he can to sign Trey Hendrickson or Odafe Oweh.

That's why the Texans won it all!

Having an offense that can score points matters too. You need a team.

Drake Maye was horrible the entire playoffs and it finally cost them because they played a team that could move the ball and score.

They played:

the Chargers who were missing both tackles and are also the Chargers.

The Texans who had a suffocating defense but whose QB turned the ball over constantly and could no nothing on offense

The Broncos with a backup QB (and the Patriots only TD was because of a turnover inside the 15 yard line by that backup QB).

Maye was awful the entire time but the other team made mistakes. Last night? No freebies, so NE got crushed. Really, though, that was the exact same Drake Maye and exact same Patriots* offense the entire playoffs. Just no bailouts came last night.

To be somewhat fair to mcd (I’m not upset he’s gone though 😂) he definitely got after maye for that final half against the pats this year and absolutely embarrassed them.

I don’t think Seattle even blitzed a ton if were lookin at the whole game.  They just got an insane amount of pressure with 4.  Not sure if film on some of these younger olinemen for NE got them figured out or if they had to play hurt because NE has 0 OL depth or what but my god they were awful.  Denver and LARs pass blocking were exponentially better than whatever the heck NE was doing lol

Considering the last 9 years we've has a Top 10 to Top 5 Defense, I'd say it's a little more complicated than that.

These defenses were all frauds in the playoffs when it counted.

We feasted on crappy QBs during the season to get those rankings.

We were picked apart by the Kermits and Joe Bs etc. in the playoffs when it mattered.

We never had a super bowl caliber D and we especially n3ver had a super bowl quality DC/HC.

McDermott was instrumental in getting from bad to very good.

He was never the coach to take us from very good to super bowl champs.

We wasted 5 years after 13 seconds. I called it that night.

Spectrum Terry asleep at the wheel playing Sabres GM.

Yes, this is the comment often made after blowouts.
