Cam Hayward plays plenty All over The line

He still plays a higher percentage at 3T or 5T over 0-1 T

He's super versatile but doesn't play majority 0T

He also possesses strength in the rare category...  Fred Smerlas comes to mind...

The players head up on a lineman.  Nose and 5 tech. Wade Phillips was talking about Aaron Donald.  He is the best penetrator maybe in history.  The 4 tech is further away from the guard with a rusher outside the tackle.  Schematically creates an advantage that offense has to account for.

A 5 is not a head up technique. We also won't be playing a 0 nose - he'll be a shade. Regardless though, if you're doubling one than you're leaving one unblocked. If you're doubling two then you're leaving two unblocked. The only case where there can be a double is if the offense reads one of the overhangs or an interior guy if they're running midline.

FWIW, DJ Jones is the primary NT for the Broncos at 6’0”, 303 lbs..  Oliver is 6’1” at 287 lbs..  so just in measurables he’d need to put on 10lbs, with the same penetration.  340 lbs. Big Old Teddy Washington is the 90’s version of a traditional Nose.  This isn’t 1997.  It’s 29 years later.  Football has evolved.

He will be a 4tech and on tv will look the same.

Thanks GB.  I don’t know what we’ll do, but I am trying to think in terms of 2026, and how Leonard thinks, not what I like.  Hey, I loved Marcellus Wiley, Teddy, and other with punishing Paup at the second level.  It’s just a different NFL.

I agree. I think he'll play predominately in a 4i/3t role. His position flexibility is what this thread was about though. The ability for us to use him as a weapon and attack matchups in specific scenarios.
