What an opportunity the bills blew this year. 3 weeks later I'm still pissed we lost this game. The coaching changes have been exciting, and hopefully they pay off, but man it should've been us in the superbowl tomorrow. In the Allen era, this is the longest I've been angry about a game after the fact. Enjoy the game tomorrow everyone 😅 Blame McDermott Also, a special shout out to Bills fans that accepted the absolute inexcusable failure that was 13 seconds 1 Quote

Mrbojanglezs Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Not really, I was the least interested in the 2025 season as I have ever been, because it has ended the same way so many times. Wanted McDermott gone after 13 seconds, Brady wasn't my first choice, but I am ready to move on. 1 Quote
BillyJoeBills Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Blame? We have Josh Allen who was drafted in 2018; since then, no WRs drafted in 1st round, only one WR in 2nd round (Keon Coleman); he needed a number one WR this year and what did we do? Drafted a CB in Hairston, who’s brittle as a china glass Quote

Looking forward to and excited to see how they shake things up going forward. We weren't going to win the Super Bowl this year, McDermott is gone and a new era is upon us so I don't really see the point in seething over this game at this point It's funny, thinking of the years that the bills have been in the playoffs with McDermott and Allen (not counting 2017) I really can't see any superbowl the bills would've won other than maybe the rams the 13 seconds year. Philly last year? No way. Their defense would've murdered us. Tampa Bay in 2020? Not a chance. San Francisco? Maybe. I dunno. I'm ready for new era either way 1 Quote
Success Posted February 7 Posted February 7 It's so different for Bills fans. It won't be enough to make the SB. Losing that game - a 5th time - would be absolutely devastating, in a way few other fanbases could relate to. There is no way to be guaranteed a win in that game. But when we make it - I'd rather be the favorite, with more talent & good health than we had this year, with Allen not having a broken foot, and with scared coaching not on the sideline. Quote
reddogblitz Posted February 7 Posted February 7 6 hours ago, dgrochester55 said: Last year I was livid, this year I was more like a little angry, but mostly emotionally numb. When 13 seconds and the other losses from 2019 to 2023 happened, those all felt like things that the team either needed to improve or them blowing an opportunity. That is just football and part of being a fan. These last two years felt different as if we had the game and it was deliberately yanked from us by the officials. I am convinced that in both of those games that had Buffalo overcome those incidents, that the officials would have kept using penalties to steer the game until the same outcome occurred. That is not something that a fan should have to endure. The officials in the game are currently at best, inadequate and inconsistent because of a setup that needs a serious overhaul and at worst, corrupt. It not a matter of whether I think Josh Allen and the Bills are capable of winning the superbowl, it is a matter of whether I think that the league will let them. I will always love the Bills and do not think that I could ever completely remove myself from watching football, but it is getting harder every year to enjoy it. This is kind of where I'm at. NFL doesn't seem to be on the up and up. My conspiracy theory is the NFL rule book is so complicated on purpose. To give them wiggle room on a tight call if they need it. What is a catch? I blame it on my amazing Dad. He got me hooked on NFL football so here I am. I watch the Bills and follow them and for 3 hours a week I'm all in. But the outcome doesn't always seem just. So I just have to blow that part of it off. I may be naive, but I appreciate MLB more nowadays cuz it seems to be on the up and up a lot more than football. Rules are simpler. Your foot is on the base or it's not. Now with rePlay they seem to get the calls right. Pitchers and catchers report on Tuesday. YAY!!! That said, football games are more fun to watch. I wish the rules and enforcement could be a lot better. I believe it could if the owners and Roger wanted it to be. I am still mad at Wonder Boy and Cook for the TOs and bad passing and dropped passes and giving away free FGs etc. Refs screwed us, but bottom !ine, we did not play well enough to win. 1 Quote

Like a good chance Sean is still here among other things. I mean that single play changed the lives of many. Way more than No Goal i guess that’s sports for ya Honestly, I think the fire McD was in the works since before the season. As far as the game, yes it sucks, but can’t pin it completely on the catch. Yes, any football moron knows it was a catch. Even Perriera said so on MTC, probably as he’s trying to push the agenda for more full time refs. but here’s the thing, even if it was a catch, we still meaning Josh and Cook screwed up with four horrible turnovers. Brady screwed up in calling actual plays with 18 seconds left in the first half. We should have if anything there outside and if lucky is 17-13 or 17-19, not 20-10. Brady should have taken the knee and ended the half at 17-10, and we had the ball in the second half. So yes, this one sucks eggs, but we did it to ourselves. We can’t let the refs screw us. We should've beaten those clowns by 17 points. We blew it. i know we would’ve beaten the Pats. I’m 100%. I don’t think we are complete enough to beat the Seahawks, but we would’ve made the big dance. That’s something. Quote

Man with No Name Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) im not livid because a decent part of it is on Allen. He did enough for us to win, true. so i don't put the blame squarely on him. but if there's blame to go around, he gets a piece of it. And I find it IMPOSSIBLE to be mad at Josh Allen obviously annoyed by the constant shortcomings of our defense in key situations. Edited February 7 by Man with No Name Quote

folz Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Sometimes things happen for a reason. And I am very excited about the coaching changes, the future, etc. (it was time), but... I can't help but feel a little bad for McDermott (and the team). Two years in a row the NFL/refs took a playoff win away from him and definitely one if not two Super Bowl appearances (and possibly his job). Sure, maybe we lose to Philly and Seattle, but then again maybe not---who knows, I'm not sure how much better they are/were than the Bills. But now Sean is labeled with the "could never get to the big game, with the best QB, longest/best HC/QB combo to not make a SB appearance, etc." When he should have been in at least one SB (last year). K.C. last year was not just the bad 4th down call, people made videos showing how many times in the game the refs mis-spotted the ball in the Chiefs favor, and other bad calls beyond just the tush push (the worthy catch, etc.). The NFL obviously wanted Taylor Swift at the SB last year (among other reasons I'm sure). The refs played a big part in 4 of McD's 8 playoff losses (though I think we still lose the first AFC Championship game to KC regardless of the refs---they were just the better team at that point). 5 of his 8 playoff losses were determined by 3 points or less (two in overtime). I mean, that's not just heartbreakingly close every time, but very easy for one bad call to determine the outcome when games are that close. Serious question. How differently would we think of McDermott if we were in the Super Bowl last year (and let's say we also lost to Philly---but closer game than KC), and then in the Denver game this year, we get the call and win, then beat the Pats and were about to play in the SB tomorrow. Two Bills/McD SB appearances. Totally different picture/scenario in the Bills/NFL landscape and mostly determined by the NFL/refs, imo, not the players and coaches on the field. Now, if he lost the SB(s) he still may have been fired anyhow (the object is to win one not just get there), and I know his defenses had let downs, he made mistakes (13 secs), we needed a breath of fresh air, etc. But, honestly, he also kind of got screwed out of a couple of opportunities to change the narrative of his career. "Hey, can't worry about the refs, gotta be good enough to overcome bad calls." Yeah, well how come the Chiefs and the Pats and the like never seem to have to overcome bad calls, in fact, more often than not they are the beneficiary of the calls. They don't have to overcome, they actually get help. Could we have played better and taken the refs out of the equation, sure...but we shouldn't have to consistently do more than our opponents to win. [Denver this year and KC last year both made plenty of mistakes of their own, enough to "lose" the game---yet they won. So, not sure why we should always have to do more.] But, yeah, I don't hold on to the losses like I used to because not only do I not have any control over the outcome, but often times our coaches and team doesn't even have control over the outcome either. If the NFL decides they want things to go a certain way (not saying that they always do that/every game), there isn't much our players or coaches can do about it except try to totally dominate a team (which doesn't happen often in the NFL---teams are so evenly matched, especially come playoff time). Anyhow, sorry for rehashing the past, but Steptide asked. 🙂 Moving forward...Go Bills! 1 1 Quote
Governor Posted February 7 Posted February 7 We might look back at it and say it was a very necessary loss. That’s what I’m telling myself for now. Quote
