I guess it depends on what you'd get in return.

I don't see it because I don't think we'd get enough value to justify it.

Yup. He has game wrecker potential when healthy, it would need to be a good return for me to feel good about it

He is inconsistent on the field and consistently off the field too much due to injuries.  His contract is ugly.  If you can get good value, especially a contributor at a position of need, go for it.

Yeah I would definitely do a 2nd rounder. If you keep him, you also need someone else to step in for him anyways since he’s always hurt. Only keep him if you absolutely have to.

He is not always hurt.

I think that is insane.

He's a scheme specific undersized DT coming off of a major injury and making $17M per.  And in 7 years he has 30 career sacks...  as an undersized supposed interior pass rush specialist!

He's not fetching anywhere near a 1

A third rounder is prob the very best they’ll do

Right, you’re not getting a top 10 first round pick for Oliver, so if he was somehow moved for a first, it’d be the back of the round. And no way on god’s green earth would I ever choose Edmunds over Ed Oliver. Their impact on the field isn’t close.

Our defensive rankings on defense took a hit when he left. He didn't make the splash plays, but he played an excellent scarecrow, taking away passing lanes in the middle of the field & tripping up runners, so they didnt get a DB with a full head of steam or break a long one.

Oliver can be a difference maker, so I wasn’t that upset, just my opinion

Oliver was really good in 23, was hurt much of 24.  he played, but I think part of the cryptic comments a just practice and injuries coming out of obd is related to how much we have put guys in the field on d who were not good to go.  Von looked washed, Oliver played a few times banged up, Groot had injuries and played, and benford had his bell rung hard and came back the next week to get it ring again (AFC chip game, so I might give a pass on that).

He was great vs Baltimore, and then was out for basically the whole year after that this season.

If I could get value and out of his contract I'd pull the trigger.  Williams from the jets is distinctively better player, he got a 2026 2 and a 2027 1.  His contract from here on our is almost entirely salary, so I think the bills can get a 2 or a 3 for Oliver given the jests got a player as well, maybe even a bit more.

If Leonhard thinks he can look like he looked vs Detroit in 24 and Baltimore in 25 for many games I'm all over keeping him, but in general I like the rams model of pay and trade for stars, and just go young decent jag everywhere else.

Trade Oliver and 2 1st rd picks for Justin Jefferson.

Trade Oliver, 2026 1st, and their choice of Coleman or Palmer.

Why not play Oliver like we used Hoecht in the 1.5 games he played?  There was talk that Oliver could play Inside Linebacker when he came out of college.  Get creative with where he lines up.  Good players are hard to find plus he’s a good locker room guy or at least not a problem.  Better get a good player in return if we trade him.  Any trade haul that doesnt include a 1 st rounder  (and it won’t) isn’t worth it.  We aren’t in a rebuild.

Oliver isn’t on the same planet as Williams and everyone OUTSIDE of Buffalo understands that.  He flashes for about 6 plays a year and is hurt the rest.  You don’t get big returns for guys who are constantly hurt and not elite when they aren’t.

There is a 21 million dollar cap hit if traded before June 1 in 2026

This wouldn't make sense.

Especially considering he is one of the elite penetrating defensive tackles at only age 28.

We need a few more Blue Chip players... trading one away doesn't make sense in my opinion

I agree.  I want to see him play for a year in a Leonhard defense.

I trade him at the combine.  He was brought in for McDermotts smaller DL setup, so he doesn't fit in any DL position we will be running. IF healthy, he is worth a mid to low 1st rounder, maybe more.  We need the draft picks, we need to replace him on the DL.

I did some research, Very in depth research...Ok Chat GPT and google, and it seems he is worth a 1at rounder IF he is healthy and I think he will be.

Which are the teams that run that type of scheme.   A 1st round is the "Best Possible".  As a distressed buyer, you are probably getting a late 2nd rounder or a early 3rd rounder.

What position will Sanders play ?

THis DL is a big mess and it requires some sorting out...

It needs to be re tooled.  But I think we have a few pieces we can move around.

Ed won’t save much on the cap this year if traded (a couple mil I believe), but he’ll save over 10 mil next year. So if we could get a 3rd it might not be the worst. Also, his salary for the trading team is attractive relative to his value.

I think it all depends on Leonhard, does he have a distinct plan for Oliver. If there isn’t a plan, I think you go the trade route rather than sticking a round peg in a square hole. We could draft a player who fits the system and recoup decent money next year.
