I was reaaaalllllly unhappy with the decision to retain Brady instead of going outside the organization to bring fresh eyes and minds to bear on the ongoing issues.

But I've got to say, the hires they've made to fill out multiple vital assistant roles have been nothing short of outstanding, imo.

If these coaches work out and we can get and win a SB, dare we them The Brady Bunch? 😀

Can you give us some insight into why you like this particular hire?
It seems kind of uninspiring to me

Why was this guy coveted?
He helped develop guys like Brock Osweiler, Mac Jones, and Will Levis, and called plays for Callahan when the ship was sinking in Tennessee?

I don't think that's a great summary of his career, actually.

He's an Adam Gase guy.  Followed Gase around from 2014 to 2020.  He was in Denver when Gase was OC there and  Peyton Manning played all the games, and Osweiler played 0.  But he was there as the "Offensive Quality Control Assistant" which I believe usually means self-scouting and sometimes scouting the upcoming opponent for what succeeds against them.  Unclear he had anything to do with the QBs specifically and Manning was famously good at self-scouting himself.

He followed Gase to Chicago when Gase took the OC job there, then to Miami when Gase took the HC job there, where he became QB coach for Tannehill

Then he switched to being a Josh McDaniels guy.  Hardegree was an "Offensive Assistant" with the Patriots in 2021.  To be fair, Mac Jones had a very strong rookie season in 2021 under McDaniels.  He was getting praised to the skies; one content creator did a Youtube piece titled "Mac Jones Terrifies Me".  But, as an offensive assistant, unclear what Hardegree had to do with that.

In 2022 he accompanied Josh McDaniels to the Raiders as QB coach for Carr/Stidham then Aiden O'Conner/Jimmy Garappolo.  Next Stop Titans and Will Levis/Cam Ward.

In 2024 and 2025 he went to Tennessee under Nick Holtz as OC, who was HC at UNLV when Hardegree was with the Raiders.

I doubt he's called plays; McDaniels was the playcaller in Las Vegas, wasn't he? And in Tenn, Holz was the OC and remained so when Callahan got the boot

Anyway, he's got 11 years of experience with 7 different teams, but I think it's more sensible to think of him as being an Adam Gase disciple, then a Josh McDaniels disciple, then making a jump out from under them when Josh McDaniels took 2024 off.

If the idea is to have offensive coaches who are older and won't try to be "buddies" with Josh, Hardegree at age 41 and Carmichael at age 54 both fit the "bill" (so to speak)

Yes way more excited about the new staff than I am for Brady

not to be a wet blanket but not one of those teams had even an average QB hopefully it was nit his doing

Well, the offensive assistant or QB coach is a long way from choosing the QB.

I listed the QB he coached.

This means more screen plays:

Brady really nailed it on the head as far as scheme and understanding fan frustration. I agree that even if the play doesn’t work it makes the defense respect the play to open up other plays. I’m pretty optimistic about the future with Brady in command.

Took over play calling for Tennessee's offense in late September and they saw a big bump in EPA:

Not much on the resume to be inspiring, most inspiring sign is how despite the Titans not winning a lot of games last year Cam Ward had a decent rookie year. 15 TD's to 7 INT's (17 to 14 TD to turnover ratio in total) just under 60% completion percentage, and all with not the best offensive supporting cast.

One post above yours...   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

OK, so he did call plays...still a negative EPA for non scripted plays.

But I rather doubt we want him to script plays, or call unscripted plays....Brady has made it clear he wants to continue as the play caller.

The question is, what does he bring to the table for Josh as far as in-season tuning mechanics and game preparation that will help him be a better QB

Ron Curry, Alex Van Pelt, and Davis Webb (though I guess he's a former QB coach now.)

OK Davis Webb doesn't count Josh McCown.

Curry isn't currently a QB Coach but thanks for proving my point. A knowledgable fan like yourself can name 2-3... most people who consider themselves knowledgable fans couldn't name 2.

The point is, we have posters in this topic who aren't impressed with the hire because they've never heard of him before...

Just incredible.

How come he never lasts more than a year or two at any one place. (would have to check if those teams all fired their coaches so he was forced to move on)

it’s the way of the world now in every industry. Loyalty is a lost virtue, and people are always looking for short-term gains and avoiding having to push through a hard situation.

For sure.. he's literally been a head coach in the GOJHL, THE USPHL , NAHL. . he just job hops

He took over an expansion team in the usphl a couple years ago... Had them playing out the yin yang.. fantastic team that he completely put together

I was like dude you're in a great spot you're getting a lot of money just chill there for a couple years.. but of course he hopped up to the NAHL..  coached one year in that... Did well

Hop to another job in the nahl at a better organization in a better division

He's probably on track to be a division one head hockey coach in 5 or 10 years I'm trying to tell him you're loyalty means more than you realize

Like even if canisius comes in 4 years with a head coaching job they're going to ask you why you go from job to job every year or two.. and how long can we expect you here

Because he would leave them in an instant to take a job at RIT
