He's very knowledgeable but his voice just puts me to sleep and I can't have that while I'm in the car...😴 The thing that drives me nuts about Hamilton is how often he tacks the phrase, “type of a thing” onto the end of his sentences. Completely superfluous. If you haven’t noticed it before, you surely will now. You can curse me for it later. Edited February 13 by ChevyVanMiller 1 Quote

Seems like all the higher profile WGR announcers have endorsements with various local businesses. Corporate radio can be fickle, probably a good idea to hedge their positions with supplemental income. 1 Quote
Billsatlastin2018 Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I don’t know whether my listening habits are markedly different from the rest of you, but because I live in the GTA - not Buffalo, my radio(s) are virtually never tuned to WGR TODAY. As opposed to the way it was during the Glory Days of the 90s, where I listened daily in season. I am a Septuagenarian now and listen virtually exclusively to Sirius Radio- for music, in my car. At home, I spend a LOT of video time on YouTube Tube v.s. Regular TV. e.g. I might watch the ‘Evening News’ 0.5% of the time now- on any station. My Bills, non game coverage is found on Buffalo Plus and Locked on Bills, as well as a sprinkling of national guys- like Nick Wright and Good Morning Football. Game Day? I’ll find the Bills coverage or Red Zone. ZERO interest in Post Game drunks, Grade 5 educated Buffalo semi illiterates and buffoons on WGR! The same style I use for my other major team I follow- the Toronto Blue Jays. On their Game 7 WS run, I was addicted to national/ international/ local/ Major League Baseball Network You Tube coverage! Times change. 1 1 Quote

milfandcookies Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Pegula probably killed that station with this decision. WGR kinda sucks for sure but the oilman is being petty. No one gonna listen to WGR anymore, you can find better entertainment on FM radio in this town, and they talk bills Sabres probably more Quote
NoHuddleKelly12 Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Don’t know if this has already been commented on here, but WGR is having Brad Riter and Tim G fill in for OBL slot the next 2 weeks, and I love Riter’s humor and radio voice, seems like a great guy to grab a beer with and just listen to his stories… 1 1 1 Quote

Wish that was the case, Graham is dead weight. 1 Quote

If they want to poke pegula, they could always give Jerry Sullivan a time slot 😂 1 Quote

Its also like choosing to be a company man for $$$ ergo a sell out. OR a respectable journalist / analyst . WGR and Audacy app coupled with podcast apps, youtube , YT Radio, etc...WGR seems to be doing fine. Many of these AM stations could transition to online markets could be very viable. WGR easily accessed from Alexa/Amazon and numerous other mediums. I think Sal has suffered in the last couple years, getting more and more the company man. In fact, i thought he actually was on the team payroll to some effect. He gets money from the Bills for the broadcasts and gets access at a minimum. I don't always look forward to his segments any more, as its mostly a lot of glass licking, maybe even worse than Brown and Tasker. His exclusive interviews and access is neato- but its often just smoke blowing apart from the injury reports. I'll just say- I do really like Sal, and Sal always had potential to be a national kind of guy- he's got a great voice and vibe, and he's smart with some solid observations. Its when he gets hung up on being nice and non offensive that he struggles and seems like a company man. I get that, but you don't need to be a hot take guy to shake off homer-like bias. What I don't get is if they haven't figured out the Buffalo radio market - why have they ruled out WGR? Seems odd. Frankly if I were Sal I'd double down on myself and get back to his style of analysis that had a bit more independence to it. Maybe I'm crazy. He doesnt need the Bills $$ either- and I'd have more respect for him if he kept w/ WGR. Edited February 14 by RichRiderBills Quote
Madbillsfan Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Sal is what he is. I can only listen to him once a day. He just repeats what he said earlier in the day. I thought he was destined to be national but that ship has sailed. 1 1 Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Breaking news! WLKK 107.7 and repeater signal 104.7 are becoming WGR-FM and will simulcast WGR 550. This marks the return of sports to this channel since Adelphia ran Empire Sports WNSA from 2000 to 2004. There is also a possibility Rochester WROC "The Fan 950/95.7" will also join the WGR simulcast. Miss Empire. Loved coming home and watching Brinson and Simon. Thought they had great chemistry. On 2/14/2026 at 11:43 PM, Madbillsfan said: Sal is what he is. I can only listen to him once a day. Whenever I'm in town I listen to that. Better quality but it also drops out in spots downtown. 1 Quote

Delay is much longer than the AM side so didn’t bother with it. Hopefully that isn’t as much a problem with the regular station in game day. Quote
