Has worked under some strong defensive coordinators and head coaches. Intrigued by what he will bring to the table, but we knew he was an in-demand DC this hiring cycle, so let’s hope he can live up to the hype.

Great move. He was also an asst HC for Denver and was interim HC for Wisconsin for half a season, not a newbie but still looking to prove himself as a DC so I love it. Plus a former Bill!

He was the DC at Wisconsin for 5 years and had 4 top 10 defenses including one year ranked #1 and another #5 in the country...

Whew.... we can all relax now.

I bet the Ravens are upset, they were pursuing him also.

I feel like that was never the right move for him with Jesse minter planning to call defensive plays. I think he may have just been interviewing with them to squeeze more money from the Bills. They never even announced they interviewed him so I feel like it’s been in the works this whole time to come here.

I'm guessing there is going to be a lot of "how come we didn't see this under McDermott??" happening when the games start being played...

Someone explain to me how we satisfied the Rooney rule with our DC and OC

and ST hires? There was no reporting on us interviewing anyone.

I didn't think the Rooney rule applied to assistants

Finally someone who attacks the offense instead of sitting back with the “bend but don’t break attitude “

This is my favourite hire so far!!

What's up, Bills Mafia!? Bills are hiring Jim Leonhardt to be the defensive coordinator, and I AM FIRED UP ABOUT THIS!

This is so exciting!

Leonhard was a good NFL safety who began his career with the Bills as a UDFA from 2005 to 2007 & 2013. He played through the 2014 season. One of those undersized, gritty dudes that just made plays.

Was an outstanding DC at Wisconsin (where he played college ball) from 2017-2022. He served as the Broncos' DBs coach and defensive pass game coordinator over the last 2 seasons. He was also the assistant HC in 2025.

THIS DEFENSE WILL BE DIFFERENT! Multi-front. Man coverage. Blitzing.

GO BILLS!

it definitely does. The reason I am asking here too is because I am not sure any of this breaking news about Leonard or Carmichael is truly official.
