Actually, Marv Levy succeeded w the Bills after a failed HC gig with the Chiefs. I think Daboll's 4 years w the Giants was a great training ground, and there are a lot of worse hires under consideration. I would not bet against Daboll succeeding. Daboll would need a great D coordinator, and likely would not retain the current staff on that side of the ball. But, Daboll and perhaps Brady would be fine on the O side of things. Dark horse for the O coordinator in this situation is Davis Webb, who has history w Daboll and Allen. 1 Quote
US Egg Posted January 26 Posted January 26 The big picture of the future is there’s a new stadium, lease, and Pegula wants a better product playing there. Quote

sven233 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Get the HC decision right. Change your stance on the importance of having great WRs. Find a way to fix the pass rush. Then we'll talk. I will say that while several are still down in the dumps about McDermott, firing him actually makes me feel better about the possible future of this team because the status quo was not good enough. Sure, with McDermott, you would probably continue to have good teams and make the Playoffs every year, especially with Allen at QB. However, you were never going to win a Super Bowl with him and they realized that they had their version of Marvin Lewis. Granted, they realized it 3 years too late, but at least they got there. So, them recognizing they were not going to be able to win with McDermott counts in their favor. Whoever they hire at HC is going to probably affect the rest of it. If they go for one of these offensive minds, my guess is that they will demand a lot more talent in the WR room than what we have had for the last couple years. So if that's the case, and the new HC can put more of a premium on having real WRs, providing those talents can identified and acquired, you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. As for the pass rush? That may be as simple as getting a top defensive mind in here at DC. McDermott literally had the worst Playoff defense ever year in and year out and never changed his approach once and it got us beat year after year. So, have this new HC or whoever, find a DC with different ideas that are willing to adapt to the players you have year after year and be able to adjust to new trends in the NFL as they change. There are the things that are needed to get over the hump. In a lot of ways it's about a mindset. You need to bring in guys that are aggressive. You need a HC that doesn't necessarily believe it's hard to win in the NFL, and play things close to the vest. I want guys on both sides of the ball that want to put the hammer down. I want our HC to want to go out there and score as many points as possible every week and then turn around and want to play extremely aggressive on defense. I want a HC that wants to blow out their opponents, not just win. To me, all this complimentary football talk McDermott talked about was crap. Real complimentary football is scoring a ton of points on offense to allow your defense to play free, pin their ears back, and try to generate turnovers to give your offense more chances to score. That's complimentary football. So, am I worried about the future? Not yet..... But this HC hire and who he brings in at DC will have a lot to do with that. 1 Quote

We got knocked out of the postseason again, McD was fired, Beane promoted, Pegs interview, HC interviews, NE going on to the SB, etc. so without going into more of the same countless drivel of the past couple of weeks........are you confident for the future of the Bills? Ole Sweats is confident that we will get it right this time.........i have no doubt in this belief. It literally been 7 days. I think people need to relax Edited January 26 by Dablitzkrieg Quote

papazoid Posted January 26 Posted January 26 very confident i say slight step back in 2026 (11-6) as new HC settles in and beane adjusts contracts/roster then we are off to the races in 2027 (13-4) Quote
Nihilarian Posted January 26 Posted January 26 The 2025 Buffalo Bills have three players in the NFL top 100: RB James Cook, LT Dion Dawkins, and QB Josh Allen. The last team to win a Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles have 10. 1 Quote

Monty98 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I'm not, we are running into the cap problems now that we have been kicking down the road for a couple reasons. We have some nice building blocks but we need to revamp the WR room and the LB room. Oliver + Sanders and Walker is a nice combo upfront, the DE room is okay with Rousseau and Epenesa. Bringing Bosa back would be nice, getting Hoecht back early would be nice too. I don't think any linebacker in this group is salvagable at this point, Milano is on the downside, Bernard can't stay healthy, Williams is okay, I'd like to see us address those two rooms heavy...add another slot guy like Kionte Scott too. The Bills should have $50M+ of usable cap space this year. They have very little dead cap. The cap pendulum has actually swung back to a favorable place. Now if you think that the players stink, or the contracts were bad decisions, sure. If you’re worried that they will have their hands tied this year, take a deep breath. They will be players this year in FA. Let’s just hope the investments aren’t like Josh Palmer or Larry Ogunjobi. Quote
Rousseauisnoschmo Posted January 26 Posted January 26 As long as Beane is doing anything beyond lining up beer and food vendors for the new stadium there's zero confidence for me. Quote

BillMafia716ix Posted January 26 Posted January 26 They have to get the coach right and the DC. I want to see Josh playing behind a dominant defense. The offense with Josh gon take care of itself Quote
Freak-O Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Not confident at all. For all I know Beane might be a used car salesman and Terry Pegula a confused old man. We’ll see. I’ve gone from ”of course we’ll make the playoffs” for several years now to ”I really hope we make the playoffs”. 1 Quote
