H2o Posted January 25 Posted January 25 https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/packers-to-hire-jonathan-gannon-as-their-defensive-coordinator Quote The Packers have found their new defensive coordinator. According to multiple reports, they will hire former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon for that role. Jeff Hafley held the job for the last two seasons, but left to become the new head coach of the Dolphins this month. This was one of the guys I was hoping we might bring in as DC. Good hire for the Pack imo. 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Yea that's the best guy on the market gone. Slam dunk hire for Green Bay. EDIT: Does make me think increasingly winners this evening are probably out for the Bills. Waiting 2 weeks before you can even interview Kubiak (if Seattle wins) or Webb (if Denver wins) puts us behind the 8 ball for the top assistants. Those names will start coming off the board quite quickly now I suspect. Edited January 25 by GunnerBill 4 2 1 Quote
Kirby Jackson Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) He would have been the perfect DC hire for a young HC. Edited January 25 by Kirby Jackson 2 Quote
Saint Doug Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I have to think that the Bills know exactly who they are going to hire at this point and it’s a waiting game for a playoff team to be eliminated. These people know who they are, who they want to work with, and all are on standby. 2 1 Quote

However dirty the latter sounds, we can always wish later for them to get crushed in the Superbowl. Besides, those are the two I am picking today anyway. Maybe the stars will align and our coaching search will simplify itself by tonight Quote

MikePJ76 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Last night the word was Jim leonhard was going to Green Bay. I think if the bills know kubiak will take the job and they have a reasonable idea of what his staff will be they wait. Why would you not wait if the guy you want is still available? I don’t follow the logic there, you are going to hire second choice coaches because of two weeks? This is why they are taking to so many people. 2 Quote

Bray Wyatt Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I am thinking this must mean he was not tied to any of the remaining candidates Quote

Blank Stare Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Regardless of our need at HC, I will never…and I repeat NEVER…root for the cheats to win a damn thing. I cannot emphasize “never” enough. 1 5 Quote

Seems in prior years too, you'd see that happen after the conf championship games, the remaining teams pivot to someone else on their list rather than wait a full two weeks. The process tends to hurt the guys on the SB playing teams. Wondering did the process change, thought years back, you were given a small window maybe Monday and Tuesday of this week top talk with coach on the two teams that win today. Seems a bit backwards, teams were allowed to talk to coaches in the playoffs (not in person) heading into wildcard weekend when only one week before the game. Now have two weeks, but can't talk to anyone. Can someone explain the leagues logic there? Quote

Yeah, this is going to be tough to watch them all get swallowed up. that said, If we go with a Kubiak or a rams coach, there’s a good chance they’d go the route of Seattle or Rams coaches as coordinators. But it would be nice to have at least one former HC on staff Quote
Einstein Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Every day we wait, more and more assistants are going to be signed to other teams. Quote

It's at their place, they have a good defense. Vrabel is known to have playoff letdowns and we all know Diggs will be on a milk carton by the end of the night. I like Payton to make the game easier for Stiddham. I'm not sold on Webb for HC and especially because he's pals with Josh. Now as an OC hire...maybe. And dear Lord help me if they land on Vance Joseph. So my hope is they win and push off their staff for two weeks and likely out of our window. I like Kubiak, but the Rams have 3 guys I like and would like to see interviewed. There's no one on the Pats staff I'm interested in. In any event I'm almost 100% confident in saying that the next HC of the Buffalo Bills is coaching today. And likely, on one of the two losing teams. Let's go Denver and Let's go Seahawks! Quote

Coordinators matter a LOT and it pains us to see the best ones getting hired, but we have to get the right HC or they’ll be out the door in a couple years. Rushing the search to land coordinators is a bad move. You may think Udinski is the best option and want him hired immediately, they may have their eyes set on someone else and has been their target from the moment McD was let go 2 2 Quote

But only if you already spoke to them in the first window. Which the Bills didn't, because they still had a coach. 2 Quote
