This Defense, under contract, is YOUNG.

The core as we sit here today:

28 year old Ed Oliver

28 year old Michael Hoecht

25 year old Christian Benford

25 year old Greg Rousseau

24 year old Dorian Williams

23 year old Cole Bishop

22 year old Max Hairston

22 year old TJ Sanders

21 year old Deone Walker

Not sure what the new staff would want to do with Terrell Bernard, but he’s only 26.

Everyone else is young depth… Landon Jackson, DeWayne Carter and Jordan Hancock.

Perfect time for a new Defensive Coordinator, under a new Head Coach, to put forth a vision for this Defense.

No real game changer listed above, but alot of good young talent and the ability to bring in a handful of new contributors in FA/Draft to help move the Defense in a new direction.

looks promising when they ever all get on the field together

On paper, that’s a decent group to pitch to Defensive Coordinators and I’d be willing to bet anything that we’re involved in any trade talks for Maxx Crosby.

Bring back Edmunds!

Coming soon to a petition site near you!

I'm pretty sure he's still only 14, got a lot of years ahead of him to learn and develop.

I'd like to start seeing size in this defense. Maybe that will help flip the injury list. I know size doesn't always mean soft tissue issues won't exist or freak accidents won't happen or someone won't trip on a mat, but I think it will help in the field when dudes are crashing into each other.

Bernard is trying to up his weight to 190!

in all seriousness I’ve been so done with the puny but fast style we get gashed on.  Need a bully on both sides … not just the o-line.

ps we are not even that fast on D anyway which is a double whammy

Its a weak defense but could be fixed with a few draft picks and a few FA signings.  Im not scared of the defense if they hire the right offensive guy.

We need the right defensive guy even more. Every playoff loss has been due to the defense collapsing.

We need to get a  bigger, meaner attacking D.

Solid base to work with as you said, but we need to inject more size, speed, and athleticism into the defense. I’d love to add a couple of bigger DTs and say good bye to some of the guys that have been here for the last few years. No more Shaq Lawson, Dane Jackson, Jordan Phillips on speed dial. Get younger.

the NFL has changed and we need to also. Need 3 thumper LBs. preferably the dudes with the big neck pads sticking out.

Professor X (McD) was too busy looking for Ant-Man clones for his defense, when the Incredible Hulk was needed. 😁

Full props to Miyagi-Do Karate for pointing that out immediately above this post.

Beane'e sales pitch: "you can run any scheme you want.. as long as it calls for undersized and injury prone linebackers"

There are def some good pieces to work with but as I said the 2nd level needs to be completely reworked. I mean maybe a new coach makes Williams see his potential but if we run a 4-3 , we need a legit MLB, Bernard can go to Will for a year even though I’m not sure he’s fast enough and Williams can play Sam but that’s not really ideal. Johnson would still have a role

Let Dawkins keep eating and move him to defensive tackle to help these new linebackers. So much for Anr-Men!

Yes I heard these two genius’s on WGR today saying they might wanna keep Babich. I’ll be furious if thats the case. Even more than the HC, I’m more interested in who the DC will be. We are going to score points. We have Josh Allen. I want every person that’s been associated with any part of coaching this defense to be as far away from the building as possible. I want an entirely new thought. I don’t even care if it’s a 3-4. I don’t want anyone that shared a Defensive meeting room with McDermott to be anywhere near this team.

A 3-4 is probably too much of an overhaul, but I agree with the rest of your sentiment.

Given our HC is likely an Offensive mind, DC is the second most important hire of the offseason.

You could a lot worse than a starting Defense with Hoecht, Walker, Oliver, Rousseau, Hairston, Benford and Bishop but there’s personnel work that certainly needs to be done behind those players and I don’t want that to be influenced by anyone involved with McDermott’s Defenses.
