I know some Bills fans are very skeptical of McDaniel but I'm extremely high on him and think he is the exact specific offensive mind that we need to get to the next level in my opinion... Allen hasn't had that level of coaching imo Edited January 23 by Kelly to Allen 2 3 13 2 1 1 Quote
Walking Tall Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Good. The guy has a great offensive mind. I do have worries but bring him in. 5 1 2 Quote

eball Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) I’m ready to take the flak but if McDaniel can get a good, experienced DC I wouldn’t hate this move. Our offense would open the **** up! Also: how freaking great would it be for the Bills to win with the Dolphins’ former coach!!! Edited January 23 by eball 4 5 1 1 1 3 Quote

Even if we don't hire him, if we do the interview correctly, it should illuminate some offensive ideas that we can evaluate other candidates with. It's good practice to contrast the different levels of the candidates If McDaniel is bringing up x, y& z but other candidates aren't, we can eliminate the unqualified coaches Edited January 23 by Kelly to Allen 5 1 4 Quote
eball Posted January 23 Posted January 23 The more guys they interview — especially those on the offensive side of the ball — the more evaluations they receive about their personnel and what guys would do to maximize Josh. It’s a no-lose scenario. 13 2 6 1 1 Quote

GunnerBill Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I know I will be accused of being negative on Pegula and Beane (honestly I am not this is a general position I have long held on how to do coaching searches) but I don't love how wide they are casting the net. They did this in 2015 and ended up hiring Rex which, from the start, made no sense for where the team and franchise was at that point. The best coaching searches (in any sport) - IMO - start from a really clear specificationnof what it is you are looking for and then a targeting of candidates that best suit that. When they hired McDermott I think they only interviewed 4 or 5 guys. And say what you want about him not getting us over the hump that was a wildly successful hire. Getting the process wrong does not mean they get the wrong outcome. It is never that linear. They could run a scattergun search and still end up with the right person. Like you can run a very good process and end up with the wrong person. But yea, not loving their approach so far. And not just because I am not a lover of McDaniel as a Head Coach. 1 5 6 3 1 1 4 Quote

Seventeen Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Would be interesting to hear his ideas but OTOH, how much would he give up knowing he's locked down the Chargers' OC job ? Quote
Fan in Chicago Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I am not happy with this. Daboll and McDaniel? Come on, guys! Besides the coaching aspect, I won't be able to stand McDaniel's press conferences 1 4 2 Quote
T.E. Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) Part of me thinks this team needs a little bit of a kick in the butt regarding things likes focus and sense of urgency in big moments, and that another players' coach isn't the answer. I like the offensive creativity, obviously. Edited January 23 by T.E. 2 1 Quote
BillsPride12 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 These are just the formality interviews before they can interview the guys they want to(Kubiak, Lafleur etc.) IMO 3 3 Quote

Kelly to Allen Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Is it the norm to already secure an OC job in writing before you interview for a head coaching job? Quote
