Even if a few rookies have to start... Besides the coach being a young innovative offensive mind the second most important thing in my opinion for this off season is going into opening day with an extremely young defense. It would cost us 6.45m in Cap Space plus 11.8m in Dead Cap on top of that to move on from him this off-season. We can't afford to do that. Outside of someone taking that contract off our hands (unlikely), we're stuck with him for at least another season. And if he's healthy, I doubt they pay him that kind of money to be a backup. I suppose you could sign another Shaq Thompson type inexpensive Free Agent or spend a mid round pick on a guy and have them share time with him. Or hope Bernard misses time again. But, yeah, it was a DUMB contract to sign last year and we're stuck with him. If you're hoping for a big time player to replace Bernard - that's unlikely to happen. For me I think it’s looking increasingly likely given: Huge hole given Milano a UFA and Bernard’s injury history. You then factor in Shaq Thompson. Can we rely on him lasting the season? Dorian Williams is decent enough but it might be tough to hang the hat on him being great all year. 1 Quote

But even if that doesn't happen, I don't see a 1st on a Linebacker. There's far more pressing needs for this team at more premium positions (WR, DE, OL). Unless there's a stud sticking out like a sore thumb, that's a position where you can find better quality at later than you can the premium positions. 1 2 1 Quote

Who we add in terms of player likely tied to the DC. So until that's established not sure a full blown conversation needs to take place. 1 Quote
