The Rooney Rules time has passed and has become an embarrassment to coaches of color IMO

This is not about the Rooney rule.  This is about getting him on a staff with a younger coach and helping them with all things head coaches go through.

Rooney!

next

I agree, and yet I feel bad because Lynn has to know that.  I feel like Lynn, and one other coach I can't remember their name, has been a go-to Rooney candidate for years now.

It's about both most likely.

It does satisfy one of the two required interviews for the Rooney component. That's not debatable.

But, depending on who the HC hire is, yes it's common for teams to hire at least one former HC to help a first timer out.

Both can be true.

Without the Rule, he wouldn’t have this networking opportunity that even if it doesn’t lead to a HC job right now, it could greatly benefit his career down the road.

Lynn’s strength though is as a running backs coach/ run game coordinator.

I would think that the HC should be the one to select his coordinators, not the GM. This seems backwards to me, but I suppose hiring your HC first and then a GM would be considered backwards also

Since he worked on same level as Kubiak, interview serves three purposes:

  • Rooney Rule
  • Intel on Kubiak and his ability to lead and coach ( Since the wait is so long)
  • To be on staff as adult in room and because he is a good run game coordinator.

Agree, I don’t think Rooney rule is a bad idea, but it probably should be tweaked so that the candidate has an actual shot.

preparing for an interview to be a head coach is a lot of work, especially which is probably worse knowing you have no shot

How do you know this? Do you have insider knowledge?

Lynn helped mcafferey have an amazing year in 23 and the niners should have won the Super Bowl.

its all their guys.  Kubiak helped out throw for 4000 yards, Lynn helped mcafferey rush for 1500 and score like 18 td’s or whatever it was.

the bills are going to put that offense here with as many people from it that they can.

lynn is a natural fit.

The new head coach will hire his coordinators.   Kubiak and Lynn just worked together to help sf get to the Super Bowl two years ago.

Lynn might just be the rb coach.

also never discount that the bills have already talked to kubiak through back channels and they are now doing there due diligence on assistants.

Connecting the dots.  If kubiak is their top candidate then pairing him with people he has already worked with to make his transition easier is perfect.

now if they hire Daboll then yea I am completely wrong.  Also we are dead In the water if Daboll is hired.

When Anthony was HC of the Chargers his record was 33 & 31 and took them to a play off while the HC so he might be better than other coaches as far as his record and he is a offensive minded coach .

Not a terrible choice well at least for those like me that aren't "Football experts" like many here are  ..
