Not to defend Beane, but regarding that interview on WGR, was he supposed to agree with Jeremy White and Joe D that the current receivers on the team sucked? What kind of message does that send to players that have invested their hard work in this organization? Beane certainly could have handled himself better for sure and he should have couched his responses in a more professional manner, but he has an obligation to the players, whether they suck or not, not to embarrass them in the media.

the entire problem is in the way he handled himself.

Beane brought it up of his own accord.  They didn't ask him about the WR room, they had been discussing it prior to the interview.

What position does Keon Coleman play?

Not high on Keon but maybe the new staff will, I don’t know, play him where everyone who liked him thinks he needs to play to be successful … power slot.

He looked pretty good on that quick slant, change of direction TD.

Yeah, but imagine YOU were asked to be a guest on a radio show, and you call in and they have you on hold waiting for your segment, and you hear them talk about the way you flip burgers and how all your burgers taste like crap, and that you cant even put burgers on the bun properly... and then they bring you on the air and try to act like they didnt just trash your burger flipping abilities.

You're defending your burger flipping right away.

I have been literally blown away at the reaction to this firing. I was so happy and relieved I could barely believe I was awake. I genuinely thought most people were going to react the same.  We kept the right guy and I don’t even have the slightest doubt. Yesterday was one of the best days in this team’s recent history

I'm with ya. This crazy love fest with McD has to be one of the more bizarre plot twists from this weekend. I'm literally more concerned that Kromer retired.

Beane had been listening for days to all the negative media comments about how we didn’t have good receivers and how we screwed the pooch by not drafting one, etc.. It was a constant drumbeat of negativity about the receiver group leading up to the that radio spot. Beane was defending his players, simple as that. But he definitely needed to couch his comments in a better way. And he would tell you the same thing.

This was always weird as hell. Even weirder a few years later.

“Beane is my favorite person on Planet Earth,” said one employee on the business side. “He is truly the best person in sports I’ve ever met in my whole life.”

Not sure if this has already been posted, but the 13 seconds article is also free right now on Dunne’s site, as is the entire 3 part series on McDermott.

if you are upset about McDermott being fired I highly suggest reading all 4 articles. I promise you will come away feeling better about the firing.

For those of on the bandwagon since 13 seconds this part from the article was amazing:

“What I’ve been told by many players on the team,” one veteran said, “and some special teams players, is our special team coordinator Heath Farwell, that’s his job, right? He’s aware of the situation. He has studied that. So, he tells McDermott to kick the squib. And McDermott said to kick the ball out of the field. So then, Farwell is arguing the case for why we should kick the squib. But then also you’ve got special teams on the other side and he has to get them together and give them their pep talk and play call and what they’re trying to do. He’s on the other side and telling them to do that, and then he runs down and goes back and in the midst of all this confusion, the kicker didn’t get the information that he needed to kick the squib. So that’s what happened. They get out there and didn’t kick the squib.

That any coach, let alone a head coach, would even think to kick it deep there, its just amazing. Anyone who knows anything about football is thinking squib, except McD.   Then when you read the safeties 25 and 30 yards off the ball, is one more, WTF moments you cant believe what you are reading.   I feel great about McD going.

Meaning no disrespect, I don't think that Cowherd and Dunne understand the psychology of the Bills.

(Not to be construed as saying I think they were wrong to fire McDermott)

There’s a TON of McDermott support today. I’ve seen people on social media say they canceled season tickets. Others called it a “black eye,” and more wanted to rehire him. Trying to think if I’m living in a crazy dream. The 3rd and 11 quote is right. You have one job, McDermott. Do not let the Broncos convert those 11 yards, yet the player who caught the pass didn’t have a defender within 5 yards of him. That’s not lack of talent, that’s a coaching error. The wrong defensive call was made. I could’ve lived with a player getting beat for those 11 yards, but to have a guy wide open? It was a microcosm of McD’s time here and the firing was just.

This could be a scheme error; it could also be an execution error.

Would sks who is a coach look at the film and opine on which it was.

Also, I think he was fully in agreement regarding the WR room. Seems likely it was s source of tension between him and McD. Imagine you been fighting with Coach about what can be allocated to new WRs... and youre being vetoed.

Then you're on a radio show, hearing the same s*** that you've been arguing to McD... but now you g2 Devils Advocate against your own opinion. Oh, and you have to make sure to hide that you actually agree.

Just hearing his tone, ive been there before, that's what set him off. It may be the most confident about anything weve learned this week.

It’s 7:30 and now I’m punching the air.. I’ll never understand the thinking behind his coaching decisions in 13 seconds. That game made me feel like I got news a family member passed away. I remember Joe B describing how anyone he knew that was a bills fan was almost as if they were in mourning.

I remember my step father called me up after the game, and was like,”You have to fire the coach right?” He’s a giants fan and he remembers the OC getting fired on the field after the Miracle at the meadowlands happened. At the time, I said,”I hope so, because that might be our best shot.”
