I always saw McD as shady. Very calculated, always left a back door to escape accountability, always had job security in mind with every move, and deeply embedded himself in the culture for protection.

I’m sure others could see the shenanigans long ago.

It's possible. The standing up for Buffalo could be seen as he knew he was in trouble and virtually gone and, like when talking to the team through the media, he was talking to the owner through the media

Absolutely…and support/pity from the locals.

Hard to argue a lot of this.  "Tight HC" is the one that really sticks out.  Its written all over this team. More scared of making a mistake, then hyped up to go ***** some souls.  I dont even think the tight is directly a Sean flaw.  8 years of that builds up, eventually feels like a self-fulfilling destiny.  I dont think I know anyone that could isolate these playoff games as just the one individual game.  Denver, was more like slaying Denver + 8 year dragon.

I think a fresh start is best for both parties.  McD wont carry all that load to a new team, and if he gets to rebuild, he'll have a new foundation, and by the time that team is good, the 8 year thing will feel far gone... and then can truly be just 'the one game'

The article does align with what we’ve seen. He fired 3 assistants and there was rumblings him and Daboll were at odds. I forgot about Chad Hall leaving, but definitely found it peculiar he left for a lateral job after the receivers saying how much they loved him. Some of the stuff in that article looks like the writer has an axe to grind, but some of the other stuff makes a ton of sense like what I just pointed out.

I mean, outside of those 5 minutes on WGR, Beane has spent the rest of his 9 years here being known as one of the most honest, personable guys in all of the NFL. The fawning was everywhere for a long time, and way more than Beane could ever manipulate himself.

What's crazy and I'm just remembering this fully is that not long after he went on Sirius XM and that came up. They were making fun of the local Buffalo guys for asking that question and mocking them. They were agreeing with Beane that the offense had a ton of points with receivers no better or worse the year before. That we expect a big year from coleman, Samuel is finally healthy, we brought in Josh palmer, we did as much as we could with what we had available in a tight budget.

National media guys were literally laughing at the two dorks on wgr

Yep... Enough is enough... Their #1 WR... The guy every single podcast host good or bad was saying for a week Nix over-targeted on 3rd downs... And this happened with a trip to the AFC Championship on the line... If he beats Benford, or even Tre, one on one and makes an amazing catch you tip your hat... But this? This is embarrassing...

Sutton Open.jpg

What also hurt is that Nix was wholly ineffective when they started blitzing and playing more aggressive. That 3rd and 11 was the most crucial call of the season. They show blitz, back out, and have four players short of the first down guarding grass. So frustrating.

Get a guy in here who doesn’t coach scared in big moments. Who understands situationally where the opposing offense wants to go. In the 13 seconds game the two players who caught passes for chunk yards were Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Anybody but them. Man up on those two and let everyone else play zone if need be. I’m just so over the defensive breakdowns in crucial moments. McD’s time was overdue.

But who was right

The dorks at wgr.. or the national media

You can't be serious and say we have what we should have for Josh Allen... This entire year was filled with post saying we have the 32nd ranked wide receiver core in the NFL lol

Let alone by the end of the year we were playing two dumpster diving pickups off of the waiver wire.. showing it was in fact not good enough

He hasn't drafted a wide receiver in the first or second round in 7 years... 7 years

But to think bb is the most personable guy in the world lol when nobody I don't think would ever say that

There was an amusing segment of the Isaiah McKenzie show with Tyler Dunne where Dunne asked him if he'd rather have to go talk to Brandon Beane or Sean McDermott.  He immediately and unhesitatingly said "Beane"

McKenzie used the analogy of a teen stealing a car to go joyriding.  He said talking to McDermott would be like talking to your father: "I raised you better than that!  Why did you do it?  If you needed a car, why didn't you come ask?"  Hard conversation (but from what he said, love underneath it).

He said Beane was like your "fun Uncle".  "What kind of car did you take?  Was it fun?  Don't do it again or if you do, try not to get caught."

I tend to think if Dunne quoted it, it was probably said.  I think Dunne is a good enough journalist to quote sources accurately.

I just don't think Dunne told "the whole truth" in that piece, I think it was selective and slanted to present a particular storyline.

It is hilariously blatant propaganda and an attempt by the writer to further ingratiate himself with management sources instead of player/coach sources. That’s his bread and butter (and, frankly, meal ticket) so chalk it up to how he plans to continue to make a living.

I dont disagree, but theres a reason the winners write history.  It benefits them.  The quoted is comical LOL it sounds like p**n dialogue, but I also think its a little ridiculous to not expect a Front Office to do a little history writing if it benefits them.

That said, whos reading this crap aside from us L-O-L  Tyler Dunne is a grade A douche.  Football Perez Hilton

McDermott shouldn't be like fun Uncle though

I wouldn't want my coach in that role... Brandon Bean is removed from that

It doesn't mean he's put together a top five roster.. and just because he's friendly with the players doesn't mean he's not trying to protect his own in front of pegula

He can be friendly.. he can also be a guy who protects his own interests both can be true

Thats the power of the media, and short attention spans.  Truly, if it'd gone the other way Monday, we'd have the same emotional outpouring but with the barrel pointed the other way.

A GM is gunna piss people off.  The WR thing pissed me off to no ends, compare his drafts to his peers, the teams drafting in almost identical slots--- they look very similar. Not one sticks out from the others.

Beane personally, seems cool as hell. Were not talking 2 interviews exposure.... hes given time to a million people covering NFL. Very personable, the most open book a GM can be.... the dude worked his way up from freaking ball boy with Carolina to Asst.GM.  If he wasnt crazy hard working, personable, and driven--- theres a 0% chance he jumps ball boy to GM!!!

TL:DR  When you read anything these days, stop and ask... is this propaganda ?

The Rex Years from Dunnes article

The Rex Ryan stories are legendary for all the wrong reasons. As one goes, coaches hollered for a player to enter a game on the sideline… only there was one problem. The player was up in a suite because the coaches forgot to tell him to dress. “The f--ker had to run down and put his ***** on and go play,” said one ex-Bill, dying in laughter. “Rex was retired on the job. Those guys were drinking beer by 4 p.m. every day during training camp and just partying. It was a ***** show.” The moment that broke that Bills team was when Rex and a batch of his assistants rented a bus to attend a World Series game in Cleveland three hours away during a game week.

(It was still a .500 team)

McDermott is a mental midget. He had PLENTY of years to break through, with a generational Superstar League MVP QB and Superstar RB and Top 5 O-line, and never did.

He'll never break through. Where ever he goes, he'll remain a mental midget.

Buffalo Plus can kiss McDermott's butt all day long if they want.

My bad keon Coleman is so bad I literally took that out of my mind

So he's been here 8 years.. and he has two guys in the top two rounds .. one was a trade not an actual draft pick

I bet if you went through all 32 teams that's probably 30th or 32.. AKA not enough for a generational quarterback

You should be taking a guy in like the second or third round more than that

maybe that will change now that we probably won't be spending all the premium picks on defense

I'm not dumb enough to take a Dunne piece as gospel, but I do think the Beane hate and the subsequent McDermott lovebombing is a weird reaction.

The fact of the matter is that if you're going to change one I'd much rather change the coach. It's an immediate impact, much more so than the GM.
