That’s his bread and butter (and, frankly, meal ticket) so chalk it up to how he plans to continue to make a living. The OP is from the old article, 2-3 years ago. There is a new article that is much more balanced, that I posted excerpts and links. 2 1 1 Quote

Yeah, definitely, I got that, but the earlier story still tells us a lot about their relationship and makes me wonder about Beane’s involvement in the earlier piece — something I hadn’t thought about before until I saw the fawning language in the piece. 1 Quote

Brianmoorman4jesus Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I have been literally blown away at the reaction to this firing. I was so happy and relieved I could barely believe I was awake. I genuinely thought most people were going to react the same. We kept the right guy and I don’t even have the slightest doubt. Yesterday was one of the best days in this team’s recent history 11 6 3 2 Quote

I mean, outside of those 5 minutes on WGR, Beane has spent the rest of his 9 years here being known as one of the most honest, personable guys in all of the NFL. The fawning was everywhere for a long time, and way more than Beane could ever manipulate himself. 8 1 Quote

SoonerBillsFan Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I dont feel this is a hit piece. A lot, especially after some of the things that come out, seems to be on par with what we have heard and thought. McDermott just seemed to be a little napoleon. 2 2 Quote

He was previously quite respected. if McDermott can be beloved after his 9/11 hijackers speech I bet beane can redeem himself for being annoyed with the radio host that one time. 5 Quote

I think Brandon Beane struck iron while it was hot The bills were a mess for a long time with bad GMS.. he came here, traded up in the draft.. picked up Beasley and John Brown.. traded for diggs To where everybody believed he was big baller Beane , a magician That luster has absolutely worn off the last five years though and he's never replicated that.. not in his FA acquisitions, not in trades or many Big Time hits in the draft I haven't said the words big baller Bean in a long time... But he can right the ship But it's also going to take internally admitting he's made mistakes and he's got to grow And if he was always cozy with reporters.. that's why they like him .. for all we know he could be schmoozing them at Salvatore's for years.. so he's on the good side and looks better especially pr wise Edited January 21 by Buffalo716 1 1 1 Quote

Others called it a “black eye,” and more wanted to rehire him. Trying to think if I’m living in a crazy dream. The 3rd and 11 quote is right. You have one job, McDermott. Do not let the Broncos convert those 11 yards, yet the player who caught the pass didn’t have a defender within 5 yards of him. That’s not lack of talent, that’s a coaching error. The wrong defensive call was made. I could’ve lived with a player getting beat for those 11 yards, but to have a guy wide open? It was a microcosm of McD’s time here and the firing was just. Wow that’s great and so true. *the article Edited January 21 by Governor Quote

Honestly, I think that narrative changed a couple of years ago, not withstanding the fawning around Beane’s appearances on Pat MacAfee’s show. But who knows? I personally think we were stuck in a Chcuck Knox time loop with McDermott, so I’m hoping for the best. Quote

Yesterday was one of the best days in this team’s recent history 100 million percent. It probably saved us a couple Superbowls when it's all looked back on decades from now. My only criticism is that this should have happened after 13 seconds when Allen was only 26... But thank God they made the move long before Allen was 35 or 36 like Elway Edited January 21 by Kelly to Allen 1 1 1 Quote

Enough is enough... Their #1 WR... The guy every single podcast host good or bad was saying for a week Nix over-targeted on 3rd downs... And this happened with a trip to the AFC Championship on the line... If he beats Benford, or even Tre, one on one and makes an amazing catch you tip your hat... But this? This is embarrassing... Yesterday was one of the best days in this team’s recent history I always saw McD as shady. Very calculated, always left a back door to escape accountability, always had job security in mind with every move, and deeply embedded himself in the culture for protection. I’m sure others could see the shenanigans long ago. 2 Quote
Bag of Milk Posted January 21 Posted January 21 When the Bills had Marv Levy whoz overall, was easy going, he was complemented well by having Bill Piluan as the General Manager with his " The buck stops here" philosophy. I always felt that there was a light on in one of the offices at OBD when Polian was the GM , always striving to will the organization to greatness. Once Polian departed the organization went through many GM's and coaches and it felt like the organization was a rudderless ship. Once McDermott was hired it felt like through the best and the worst of times the light was always on in his office at OBD as he was relentlessly trying to will the organization to success. With an out of town owner, who often comes across as misinformed and aloof McDermott was unafraid to set rules and guidelines organizationally. He had to play the role of strict Dad sometime. Beane, he is Mr." Fun Uncle" cozying up to players , etc. a wannabe who never strapped a jock in in his life. When he talks tough and mentions how competitive he is it makes me laugh McDermott is a leader of men not only in the football field, but in life. His impact on his players , just like Marv, will have a profound impact on them throughout their lives . 1 1 Quote
Shortchaz Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Everyone involved are probably good people. The nuanced things they did are the definition of under a microscope. I don’t hate McDermott but I’m glad he’s gone. While it’s a nerve wracking time, it’s what’s required. If beane remains the gm and doesn’t shift over to solely president I’ll have more of an issue with him. beane AND McDermott have done great things for this organization but they didn’t do enough. They were compensated well for their time here and I have ZERO problem with either of them being gone. I’m okay with McDermott being gone, I’m okay with beane being president, I’m not okay with beane being gm (talent evaluation, being the person that selects players). 1 Quote
