McDermott is lucky Ralph wasn’t the owner he would have been fired after the 13 second game

Think the difference may be Pegula is more old school where you take a job and stay there for 40 years.  Obviously different in sports, but same concept just instead of 40 it may be4 or 9.   Wilson seemed to have a short fuse and more impulsive.    Think that's easier to be that way as he inherited daddy's money where Pegula was more self made, he made himself rich so often people like that has more old fashioned values.

Assuming the Bills do get Kubiak, for all we know, he could be better than Johnson.   McDaniels looked great his first year in Miami, how'd that turn out?  Johnson could do the same and flop or could be great, one year doesn't tell the story.

As to why he didn't get rid of him last year, that makes me think the story in the Buff News yesterday by Lance has a lot of truth in it about McD wanting Beane to get him certain players and many didn't work out.  From the article that's been going on for years though, so what changed now, that could then be tied to the story in the Athletic about McD telling Terry and Beane the roster's NG both in this meeting and worse doing it through the press.

Maybe last spring/summer McD wanted Beane to extend Groot, Bernard, and Benford.  Beane may have told him I can do that, but then no money for WR and McD said fine.  But then in October was mad that Beane didn't do anything and kind of went public with it.  Pegula seems to be old school and doing that crosses a line with him and that made it end now.

Will never know the true story, but piecing some of the stories together starts to make sense.

Maybe but why did he spend so much on JAGs like Samuel and Palmer the last couple years. He’s making the decisions, and he SUCKS at finding WRs both free agency and in draft. That needs to be fixed yesterday

The crazy thing about this last week is before Monday this place was pry 80-20 to fire McD. Now its like 20-80 we should have kept him , we even had a will he maybe come back thread. I mean WTF...

Maybe it’s because of the keeping of Beane. Feels like a half ass job by Terry. I get it overall though. Just hoping like hell we pick the right HC. There’s only like three I’m interested in, so preparing for the worst.

Maybe because he had already put all this money into players that McD wanted like Bosa, etc so little left for WR, Beane may have even warned him and McD told him we'd be fine.  Certainly many posters here wanted more done at WR in the off season, but most also did agree we were better than the year prior as Palmer was a step up from Hollins and Coleman had a year under his belt, even looked real good in training camp and week 1 against Ravens had over 100 yards.  Overall the team was strong in 2024 offensively, went to conf championship game, then for 2025 WR group look at least as good if not at least a little better, but instead gets worse.

Not saying this I agree or disagree with this, but could explain why??

My take is still there’s a problem with evaluating WRs. Whatever metrics they use for evaluation needs to be scrapped. Use your eyes at any point in their careers and you knew Palmer and Samuel weren’t worth that contract. Picking players like Justin shorter because of his RAS and how he looks good in shorts is just pathetic when you have actual real WRs like Nakua going same round or not trading up for Flowers because he has short arms. I pray they fix their scouting on WRs or else it’s just going to be more of the same with Beane leading the charge, regardless of McD being gone.

maybe keon will be free to flourish now? And Shakir can go downfield 10 yards or more

Hopefully Josh is on the John Elway timeline…. Sometimes new faces, schemes and a different outlook can spark a team. Only thing that doesn’t change is the cap space!

We went to the playoffs with tyrod Taylor throwing 17 passing touchdowns lol

To be fair the Bills made the playoffs that year because Andy Dalton threw one TD pass.

Klint kubiac looks pretty great, and I've read he's well tied to our owner/front office.

OP, you are of course correct in your comparison, maybe dicky j was more behind the times than mcclap, but both play tight, both make bone head game time decisions, both want the o to have training wheels to protect their precious d, and both do really well vs below average teams but get absolutely wrecked by good ones.

I hadn't seen anything about Kubiak having  any ties to Pegula or the front office. Can you elaborate? Thanks!

Rex couldn't get that team to the playoffs but he took the Jets to the AFC championship game twice lol

Moving on long-term could be the right call if they hit.. but to call McDermott dick J is hyperbole of the greatest extent lol

You think Josh Allen would have developed in New York? Zero chance

But he did develop under McDermott's leadership and that also is never taken into account

And Taylor performed at a Pro Bowl level that year, efficient as can be in +/-. We had a historically poor point differential. Replay that season 10 times and we make it once. Not that far off base from the original poster, put Jauron in a Brady-less AFC East and he probably sneaks in 1 in 10 years as well.

One has a hall of fame QB and other doesn't. Context matters. We have been in the top 5 offensively regardless of who the OC was since Allen 2020.

The difference is we had a coach here with the same roster who took the Jets to two AFC championship games and couldn't even make the playoffs

And the culture was a joke

McDermott did change the culture at one Bills drive that's not the debatable because everything changed about how they ran the organization when he got hired

There's a reason why the National media is basically angry about it and all the head coaches around the NFL and ex head coaches have his back

John gruden doesn't need to have Sean's back.. but he does because he knows he's terrific

You could say he was never going to get over the hump but he absolutely was one of the 10 best coaches in the world and can turn down any job offer until he finds the right one

The Ravens have had the most all pros in the NFL the last 8 years and have less to show than Buffalo.. the bills aren't in the top five yet have been right on the cusp every year

The former underperformed the latter took the 8th best roster and always had us in the final eight

Nobody is disputing McD brings a high floor.  That isn’t inconsistent with the OP’s premise.

Rex was checked out here. He and his brother were drinking until late nights, even Sunday early am. They'd run to the media for laughs to get their egos fed. They really, really were clowns here.

Should have been fired after 13 seconds.  Great human, not a good enough coach of the side of the ball that is his expertise.

As an out of market Bills fans I think it's fascinating how a large portion of the fanbase could never get past 13 seconds wrt McD but as far as I've seen it's not a narrative nationally.  For the record my opinion is that it was a collossal eff up that was on McD - but I would not have fired him the day after.
