Speaking as one of the angry fans, it doesn't help. I have been a McDermott supporter his entire tenure. It has become apparent that a change was needed. That change when evaluated by the people in charge and they said it was his time. I didn't see anyone worrying about me when after 33 years of service my company was bought out by an international corporation and they cut a huge swath of us out of engineering. We built the company! People get let go every day. THIS IS NO DIFFERENT. Its business. 4 4 3 Quote

Yikes. Then the trade deadline, “I tried.” followed by the claiming of Slay, which then led to losing Ingram, and having to play Max in a meaningless game, and of course having to play Dane in a key moment. the narrative everywhere was that this team was just not very talented. I understand feeling the need to make a change, but a Beane promotion is puzzling. 1 Quote
Rockpile233 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 The late tribute video is eerily Sabresesque. 1 1 Quote

He can go too but likely he moves to upper management as Pegula backs away from operations altogether and the GM role is promoted in house to deal w football specifics Quote
YoloinOhio Posted January 20 Posted January 20 If they released a tribute video the same day, I feel like it looks even worse. Like they had it planned for awhile ready to go. 2 2 Quote

I think they were genuinely blindsided by the outpouring of support for McDermott especially from local media. He apparently did a great job the past few months setting his own narrative in motion. I doubt they ever intended on releasing a video like this but felt compelled to. No big deal. It's just corporate PR. Nothing about how the firing went down will ever be thought about again after we get through the next week or so. 1 Quote

Many can't see it that way. They are not going to change their minds. I can see the threads/posts and arguments already, no matter what the future brings. I disagreed with you on many subjects, but even though I supported Sean, this is what happened. It was a business decision. I'm not sure if I can take endless "conspiracy" threads this coming year. 1 Quote

I'm sorry but although I was shocked and sad about the firing, the uproar seems waaaaay over the top. If they had released this yesterday people would have been like “They knew they were going to fire him no matter what! Look, they already had a video ready to go!” 3 Quote
zow2 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Ha, they put out a nice video and people on social media still bash them. Really a no win situation. Just move it along and hire the best coach. Let’s go! 1 1 Quote

This is the way of this board (and the world) lately. Quote
eball Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Firings aren’t pretty, people. Enough with the faux outrage. It’s been all of a day, and a holiday at that. 2 Quote

So when they have the presser tomorrow they can head off any questions about why they didn't give McDermott a proper send off. To be honest it's almost more insulting to McDermott to hastily throw this together and put it out there the day after he was fired, but whatever they made their token gesture to appease people. There is no proper send-off to a guy who was fired. 1 Quote

I’ve agreed with a lot of your stuff that you’ve posted about this firing I disagree here. Are they probably taken aback by outpouring by media probably right there. They had this in the works, it takes time. The season just ended , it was a holiday yesterday. They probably were told yesterday and made it today . Bills media and fans are so easy to manipulate too because the city and team is beaten down all the time by outsiders saying the team can’t win the big one, the terrible weather, who would want to live here etc etc. McDermott makes his impassioned Buffalo speech after the loss then goes on the media proclaiming his love which is probably true but of course fans and local media eat it up. “ see he’s one of us” then Darth Vader Beane cuts him down a day later making the optics look bad 1 1 Quote

They weren’t coming back from that. Add in that the national talking heads, previous players and coaches all were negative on the decision to let McDermott go, they arent changing the narrative no matter what they do. at this point, they need to go to the press conference, thank McDermott, and move on to their vision for next year. What they want to see happen, what they’re going to do to make it happen, etc. people will all change their topic of discussion as soon as the first interview is booked. 1 Quote
Don Otreply Posted January 20 Posted January 20 They are doing the right thing, Sean was instrumental in re-imagining what the Buffalo Bills are presently, they know damn well that the turn around likely doesn’t happen without him, so put to rest the biases that are floating around. GO BILLS!!! 1 Quote
