If Beane had not gone on WGR in April 2025, would you still think he is the problem?

  1. 1. Did he damage his reputation for good from a 10 minute radio phone call?

Was it a bad look? For sure. Did he damage his reputation for good? I'm not prone to superlatives and over reaction, so no. But it certainly damaged his reputation in my eyes.

Sportswriter Jerry Sullivan has been fired by WIVB-TV (Channel 4), the Niagara Gazette and the Lockport Union Sun & Journal after he made sexist comments on a livestream podcast Monday night.

Sullivan was under fire on social media immediately from Twitter followers and other journalists after he said: “The worst fans really are the women. They don’t get critical journalism. They’re all wannabe cheerleaders.”

I guess this is proof that at least one member of the media probably deserved getting yelled at 😂what a horrible thing for a person to say

I honestly think Bills fandom would have a different prospective on this situation without the call. It turned the tide against Beane more than I saw before.

I am someone who supported him after that although I thought it was over the top.  I agreed with his logic.  But the victory laps he took made me lose respect for him.  It even made it to the opening credits of Hard knocks. But with how the season played out and missing at the deadline and now this I completely distrust his judgement.

Let me throw something else into the mix.

Suppose these signings and picks — Palmer, Samuel, Coleman, etc — were what McDermott wanted, and Beane went out and got them for him.

Then he goes on WGR and offers a full-throated defense of the strategy.  Essentially puts his own rep on the line defending McD.

Then the games start and it becomes obvious it’s not working, just like what happened last year when Beane had to go get Cooper at the deadline.

Wouldn’t you think Beane would have grown progressively more frustrated and resentful at taking all the heat for building a roster in Sean’s image?

Thank you for saying this, because it's exactly what I and a few others in my circle have thought.  I'm thinking back to Beane getting Brown, Beasley, Diggs, Davis, Sanders because he said Josh needs weapons.  Then suddenly he doesn't and devalues the WR position?  Suddenly, we're drafting TEs and putting the emphasis on WRs who can block.  That's a philosophical change in the offense, which is generally not the purview of the GM.  And Beane takes the heat because he can't publicly criticize McD.  Your take is definitely plausible.

And people will say “why did McDermott want Samuel, then?”  Maybe he didn’t, but I bet Joe Brady did.

I really don’t give two shiitakes about his kerfuffle with Jeremy and Joe on WGR.  Never has something so minor been made to be such a big deal.  Newsflash, NFL GM has an ego and doesn’t like to be called out by “never wrong” radio guys.  Just move it along and keep winning games and get a coach in here who can finish playoff games.

They must have brought it up a half dozen times on WGR today at various points.  Months later and everyone on that station is still smarting from it.  Imagine the victory parade they would have had if Beane had been fired.

I mean the source is the guy who runs pff so I imagine it so

PFF is a joke and so are their grades.  I don’t blame Beane for telling them exactly that.

Yes, I had been saying it since the 2024 draft. I do remember posting in the thread about the radio interview that it was very unprofessional of Beane how he handled the interview and it was one of my most downvoted posts.

I think being so defensive about it when anyone with a pair of eyes could see he was wrong damaged him.

While I do think he probably should have been out the door with Sean, I'm willing to hope that he was just getting what McDermott wanted at the position and it will get better this offseason. That's really all I can do as a fan.

Beane is a weasel and egomaniac…this is not going to end well. I know a lot of you are too young to understand how bad of an owner Ralph was, but Pegula is just as bad, and we’re about to witness it

It happens all the time in professional sports. Ever recall some if Belichick’s pressers?

My wife calls him "Mr. Grumpy."  But Belichick is often curt; Beane had a sustained mini-tantrum.

But if he drafted well and had a good track record with FAs, I wouldn't care.

With the over the top catch the coach at halftime interviews wouldn’t mind a little more, and completely understandable, Belichick belligerence at that moment.

First paragraph: yeah, the defensiveness and tone were the biggest problems. Angrily citing offensive stats while ignoring that you had to make an in-season trade after teams started daring us to throw the ball outside? Bad look. And it only happened because Beane came in hot and went straght to yelling about the previous segment. There’s an alternate world where he just started the interview normally, waited for them to ask him about WR, calmly made his case, and no one cared. (And for the record, he had a semi-valid point in that there weren’t a lot of WRs in this draft who would’ve helped this year, and all of them went before our first pick anyway. IIRC, the WGR guys were whining about not spending more 2025 draft capital on WR more so than whining about the state of the WR position overall.)

Second paragraph: that’s about where I stand as well. I don’t have a say in the decisions. Sometimes I agree; sometimes I disagree; other times I acknowledge that without knowing the behind the scenes stuff, my opinion is worthless. I used to have much stronger Bills opinions when I was younger and dumber. Now - agree, disagree, or “I dunno” - I just hope it works out.

Even if the WGR event never happened, it would not change my opinion at all.  Roster is not up to snuff, we've rewarded mediocre players with big contracts, and drafting has been suspect in the early rounds.  He's a money guy, not a football guy.

He is lucky he isn't a GM in Philadelphia or NYC (East Rutherford). Tomorrow would not have been a comfortable day for him at all. Media is downright vicious in those cities.
