I don't understand people who want Beane to grovel in front of the media.

Two things can be true at the same time.

1. The WR position needed help and depending on Hardman, Cooks, Keon, etc. cost us.

2. That exact offensive talent that lost the game on Saturday would have put up 50 points against the #1 defense in the NFL on the road if they had just protected the ball. The undisputed best players made the turnovers. Eleven possessions zero punts!

Largely agree. This might not have been a Super Bowl roster, but they were certainly capable of getting to a Super Bowl. I'm generally no fan of either McD or Beane, I think both have failed this team, but it seems like we live in a state of overcorrection. The narrative for several years was McD. This year it seemed to be on Beane. This decision wasn't made based on just this year. We had much better rosters in the past and those had the same end result.

I hope Pegula shotguns a beer, grabs the mic, says this is my team and I’ll do whatever the ***** I want. The drops the mic, walks off.

Then the presser goes on as if nothing happened.

I wonder if it will be full of “friendly” media??? No tough questions?

Of course it will, to think otherwise is kind of naive, although…, there could be a rogue reporter present, and that would be fun, to say the least, 😁🍸🚬

If next season isn’t off to a great start the fans will turn on Beane quite quickly I think.

I doubt it unless he blows the draft. People will be much more interested in the HC by then.

You realize that McDermott's defense failed, right? You accept that I assume, right? He failed, objectively, to make a Superbowl appearance with Josh Allen as his QB and running HIS DEFENSE. Assuming we can come to that agreement, now I ask you, to OBJECTIVELY, point to where Beane failed to that degree. Objectively. Not with your opinion in spite of the contrary evidence (see: offense still top 5).

I am not even remotely saying Brandon Beane is the best GM or anything of the sort, I'm just laughing at all the unoriginal fans who 12 months ago would proclaim him to be "Big Baller Beane" have now, based on a radio interview, completely flipped in spite of all available evidence.

All I get when I push on this topic, is a list of WRs. A list of WRs that we did in fact succeed with, again, scoring 30 points on the road in a playoff game against a top defense coming off a bye.

We spent ALOT of capital on McDermotts guys on D. So many DE/DT line rotation, mini LBs, base nickel D and it just got worse.

I think that is a big factor. We scored 30 points against Denver, despite 5 TO, and with only 1 on the other side. The D was not holding their end of the bargain and it was getting worse, despite the commitments.

I also think the team was unprepared and sloppy multiple weeks, costing us the division and home field in a wide-open year.

McD was trending down.

Now, Beane should get a big "fail" as well for the crappy FA signings and draft picks. and questionable extensions. But was some of that affected by McD and his system needs. How much did he want Keon Coleman, for example, versus what Beane and the scouts liked.

Beane prior to this year was very open. I wonder if he will be tomorrow?

He should be. Be honest and tell it like it is. If he believes McD wasn’t the guy any longer, say it. Firing already says it, now say the actual words.  No need to protect anyone.  At least being as honest as he can would put to bed a lot of the rumors.

I’d have way more respect for him for being honest then firing the guy and getting your minions in the press to clean it up for you.

Has Beane ever acknowledged a mistake, other than Wyatt Teller?

I think Teller was the reason the Bills fired that ex-Eagle DC who was working as an O-line coach. He didn't know his butt from his elbow.

Agreed. And there will be two camps: one screaming “we should have kept McDermott” and the other screaming back “we gave McDermott 9 years”

I’m not sure either way about McDermott. He would have kept getting us to the playoffs and if fortunate with injuries we might just have gone all the way. On the other hand, maybe it was time for something new, both for him and for the team. What I’m far from sure was the right thing to do is promoting or even keeping Beane.

"We are doing a wide search for our next head coach"

Need we bingo card this?

You left out the process will be better 😀

That 2021 roster was pretty damn good, and honestly should’ve won it all that year.

A little over the top, but I agree. A lot of revisionist history. McD consistently didn’t get his team ready to play week in and week out. This inconsistency cost them the one seed and a bye. He is a great human being. A good coach. He turtles up in big moments. Maybe he will learn from his mistakes and have a great career somewhere else, too bad he couldn’t bring home a Lombardi.
Beane and Pegula are not dummies. We have no idea what was going on behind the closed doors. There was enough talent on that roster to win 14 or 15 games, have home field, and get the bye. If the players are so sad, they should have focused, prepared, and played better against Miami, Atlanta, and NE at home.

I think as a coach McDermott is still trying to figure out how to Pace his team through the season. By that I mean that his team has to end up playing the best football. December and January, has to ramp up to that slowly so as not to wear out the team or generate too many injuries, and he has to win throughout that entire ramp up, starting with games in September that are almost like preseason games.

I thought he did a decent job ramping up to play off intensity, but there were a lot of casualties along the way.

He hasn't gotten championship play out of his players.

I haven't been a Beane fan for a long time, and I've been a frequent McDermott (and Brady) critic. Yes, I agree that McDermott's defense routinely fails to show up in the playoffs, or at least the last game of the playoffs, which says it all. But I don't agree that Beane deserves credit for the relative success of the offense. Allen and company did well despite Beane's efforts (or lack of them), not because of them. It was like Beane was running some bizarre experiment to see how the best quarterback in league history would do with absolutely no weapons at all. [Insert list of busts and has-been receivers here.] And the sheer arrogance of him sneering at people who point out his incompetence! Despicable.

Put it this way: If Beane had done his job and landed professional receivers, either before the season or at least at mid-season, the Bills would be in the Super Bowl. You can legitimately blame McDermott for the 33 points (many off turnovers), but don't credit Beane for the points Allen put up throwing to waiver-wire pickups.

I think he took that way too far this season. Very early on if felt like he was resting/sitting players that likely weren’t all that injured and it did cost us some games, and the division. We ended up with a ton of injuries anyway. I think he overcompensated there.

Really, the first build was very good. Second build not so much. I liked the Diggs trade. The aggressive move for Von. Diggs ended up being a head case but we got a lot of mileage from him. Von got hurt, not much you can do with that. The FA WR's we landed were exceptional value like Brown and Beasley. The line was in shambles early on and that was totally rebuilt. He did a good to great job at times, it's been DL, WR with it escalating in this second build.

If I had to pick one of two statements as far as why we didn't make a Super Bowl over the entirety of the McD regime, one is more coach focused and one is more roster focused. It's coaching all day. This year I agree it's been more roster focused. But I don't imagine this decision was made over one season. McD had almost a decade which is a long time for anybody in the NFL.

I think it’s just fear of the unknown. But I was sick of the known. I was since 13 secs.

Every comment mentions the WR issue. Does anyone want to talk about not being able to get a sack? That's also a huge issue. Id say it's bigger than the WR issue because Josh found a way with close to nothing.
