Beane and Pegula know the weaknesses on the roster.

Beane paid the core guys (Allen, Cook, Dawkins, Oliver, Benford, Bernard, Rousseau etc..) and tried to patch the other holes with the remaining cap money.

I, for one, thought he did a pretty good job of it.

They scored 30 points in the Bronco's game, ranked 4th in both yards per game and points per game on the year.

Would a top flight WR help them score more points?   Probably, most likely yes.

Are they losing in the post season because they can't score enough?   No.

THE PROBLEM IS THE DEFENSE

They allowed the 10th most points in the first quarter this season.

Ranked 26th in opponent 3rd down conversion % and 28th in rush yards allowed per game.

That's unacceptable for a team with a defensive mind at HC.

So when you think about how does this team take the next step, it has to be by improving the defense... they need better personnel in some positions, but more importantly better coaching on defensive side of the ball.

I believe the primary reason McDermott was let go was because of the Babich hiring and failuer to bring in a proven DC to transfom the defense.

Beane has to have a real answer about what he’s going to do regarding WR and DL moving forward.

His WR handling has been close to a fireable offense alone.  It got Josh killed this year and is a huge reason for us not still playing right now.

His DL’s never step up in the playoffs.   I think he has a solid group of Rousseau, Hoecht, Oliver, Sanders and Walker, but that’s not enough.

Until Beane fixes these rooms, he’s as responsible as anyone for why we haven’t gotten to the Super Bowl.

Give me 10 players on this team who performed above average NFL standards this season. And don’t name Josh or Cook.

The rest of the Offense, including Shakir. So that's like 7-8.

Good luck finding anyone competent on that McDefense tho. That's the problem.

Is the Pats roster perfect?  Has Vrabel been tell Kraft that they’re not good enough to win the Super Bowl this season?  I doubt it.  If McD truly believed the Bills didn’t have a good enough roster to win the Super Bowl, he was wrong.  They were a play away from a rematch with the Pats to get there, and at worst would have been a small underdog against either the Rams or Seahawks.

Far from it, and is that a fair comparison? A team in year 1 of a New HC that finished 4-13 the last 2 years to one that has SB aspirations the last 5 years and a coach on (god)?year 8? I think Kraft or any owner wouldn’t expect what is happening to happen.. The Pats have gotten damn lucky to be here..

But c”the Bills have an issue I just don’t know how a coach fixes said issue.. not like he can bench Allen for a series if he does a bone headed turnover (like he did against both the eagles and Broncos) or bench Cook because he fumbled on the Bills 18 against NE..  I’m picking on them because of the 17 turnovers they are responsible for 14 of them in those games. (If AI did the math right lol)

The problem was 5 turnovers and a defense that made Bo Nix look like a HOFer... and some really poor calls, which weren't the sole reason, but they put the Bills in bad position and solidified the L.

Maybe they fact that they had all the odds against them and still almost won on the road to a fresh/rested prepared team, suggests the roster wasn't the biggest problem.

There was a fun around this team, some fresh coaching might be the difference.

This wasn't our best roster.

But, it was good enough to win the AFC.  You shouldn't lose to Bo Nix when you have Josh Allen.

Not to mention, we had 4th quarter leads in the last 3 seasons before losing.  Twice having the ball in the 4th with the lead.

Unfortunately, the defense although not good against Denver, wasn't the major issue.  It was 5 turnovers.

But you don't have much of a leg to stand on when it's the same type of loss multiple times now.

I appreciate what they Jeremy is saying, but I'm not sure I'm buying it. To me, actions speak louder than words.

I cannot remember a season where Beane has tried so hard to upgrade a roster as this year with big or even mid named players. I also don't remember  a season where Beane was so active claiming players off the waiver wire. Hardman, Cooks, Slay, Savage and more..all brought in after the FA/draft window.

The rumors of him going all in to get Waddle AND Q. Williams at the trade deadline. Even being willing to ship out our next two 1st round picks. Very very uncharacteristic by Beane, I may add.

These actions speak loudly as a guy that knew there were shortcomings on the roster and trying to do what he could to fix it in season.

Now one could have a conversation if this was due to injuries, long standing roster issues or the way players Beane had brought in were used.

Man I’m hating it but I’m feeling a new drought coming on. This sucks.

Dude. it's hard for me to not feel this way, this move just feels wrong and even with the best QB , I feel like this was completely unnecessary..

If we fired McD after 13 seconds,  I'd be fine with that,  it's not his fault Beane and them expected him to make wine out of water with this trash roster and he still did incredible,  I just hope this doesn't break up the culture

Pegula is almost 80 and I feel like Beane is manipulating him to a degree

You can say this about literally every team with a Franchise QB. Especially the QBs that already have big contracts. It isnt a good point.

How many of those teams have a college level WR corp? Cooks and Hardman are your starting WR's for the playoffs? That is absolutely horrible. I'm not saying we shouldn't have fired McD, I'm saying beane was no innocent victim who had to do what McD told him to do or else. Beane should have been fired. Most overrated GM I've ever seen. And I've seen the Whaleys, Donough of the world as our GM but beane takes it too another level of incompetence.

Good luck attracting quality coaching candidates if this is indeed the case. There are clear issues with the roster construction of this team. Bills need to shut down the rumors now because the more this drags on the more we look like clowns.

I don't see how the last coach trying to build in excuses on why he can't get it done makes the GM or owner look like clowns.

I'm not trying to be a Beane apologist, I don't think he did enough with the roster and I'm surprised he kept his job. None of that makes McDermott a saint or the guy the Bills need moving forward.

lol.

Pegula and Beane are in a tough spot.

if the roster is good enough to win the SB, and the coach was simply the problem, then there are simply no excuses moving forward.

book you SB accommodations for next year folks!

So fans are reacting to a Jeremy White post... based on a Vic Carucci article... based on something Ross Tucker "heard"... about a meeting he wasnt in.

Got it.

The only reason I think Beane is still there is he gave McD what he requested as far as priorities. McD wanted blocking receivers and he got them, McD wanted small DL who could move better and he got them. If McD asked for the ingredients and Beane gave them then it is on McD

McDermott, Beane and Pegula have a meeting together. McDermott is fired. The following day this news comes out. So, unless someone had a wire tap, this news was let out by somebody. Any guesses who? I’m not saying that the meeting didn’t happen and I’m not saying it absolutely went down any different than was described. What I am saying is that this has to be a biased take.

My guess is Beane.  Loose lips.

Then my question is why is a meeting taking place on what is needed to win a Super Bowl during Week 15 (this would have been about 5 weeks ago) of the season, well after the trade deadline and any meaningful opportunity to address roster concerns?

this is a great point.  could be media BS

They all have holes. Bengals have the WRS we covet, but no OL. Chiefs obviously have a ton of holes with their performance this year. Ravens... lol.

Go down the list.

We're missing 2 good WRs on Offense. That's it.

It seems worse because dummy Beane popped off on WGR and set himself up. But we arent that bad off.

We DO need to rebuild the entire Defense, even if McD stayed. And that's part of the problem. And why he is gone.

On the surface this quote seems really worrisome

But it strangely makes me feel the right decision was made

Like it comes across as McDermott says the roster isn't good enough and beane and pegulas response was what are you talking about we got you all players that you wanted and ok'ed

i'm starting to feel worse about this today than i did yesterday.

I'm actually starting to feel better.  We had to do SOMETHING.  Finger pointing and assumptions aside, the Bills needed a re-set.  Hopefully, we will be on the right side of this thing and better for it when the dust settles.  🤞
