DrDawkinstein Posted January 20 Posted January 20 1 minute ago, appoo said: McDermott was forced into varying calls and schemes drive to drive, because the Bills didn't have the talent to dictate from Defense. They had to rely upon tricking the OC and QB, basically out thinking them. Hence you occasionally do things like blitz on 3rd and long because you don't have the pass rushers to not to, and you want to simulate pressure sometimes, and then sometimes yiou actually have to blitz to make the simulation effective. There's no way McDermott wanted to be in that position No, no. He SHOULDVE blitzed on 3rd and long and didnt. EVERY time we blitzed Bo Nix, he folded and threw it away or threw a bad ball. We blitzed on 1st down, we blitzed on 2nd down. We got to 3rd and 11... and rushed 4, dropped into our usual soft zone, and gave them the easy 1st down. We did this multiple times. 2 Quote

I think it is very fair to assume the specifics were not "Josh Allen and James Cook suck guys". Come off it. The snippets we have he liked a couple of the receivers Beane didn't land at the trade deadline. Far more likely it was that. Quote
billieve420 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 New coach on the defense gut it this offseason and move on from the Veterans not under contract. We need to look to the draft and low cost FAs to fill in the holes with new players they want for system. Put your resources towards making the offense unstoppable both on the ground and in the air. That isn't a bad play call, it's a bad outcome. I couldn't disagree more. In a vacuum it's not a bad playcall, but the context makes it terrible. In the situation where you have to trust that your pressure gets home AND Dane Jackson holds up 1v1. That's a big gamble. Of all the times to get away from the safe zone, keep everything ahead of you type-plays he chose about the worst time to do it. Quote

Not other teams garbage players. I don't understand why some people are giving beane a pass. I think we summize the fact that Pegula Beane McDermott Scouts and FO are in the draft meetings and the the draft war room and see whats transpried. Our poop WR room as you called it still did not keep the Bills from Scoring and winning games. It could of been better but then the question becomes how much did McD had ot do with the players chosen and whom else the Scouts and Beane said should be the pick.. Did McD insists on some players like Elam and Coleman? If we drafted to satisfy McD type of player because he requested it. How much draft capital was wasted on players we released before their 1st contract was up? None of us know the full truth here but to keep Beane I summarize that McD insisted on some stuff and allowed a few quality players leave because he felt they did not fit. Also every single playoff loss accept the Bengals loss when Hamlin was carted off the field is really all on the D not making the stops. In fact I would be hard pressed to name off the top of my head when the D bailed out the O. It never happened in the playoffs. That was McD's supposed strength, and yet no matter whom we had on the roster the D rarely bailed out the team or played lights out. 1 1 Quote

ren1701 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Interesting. I see some people believe McD gave a list of groceries to Beane and said go get it or that Beane came out of a room, opened up a clown car and said "here ya go" to McD. Rest assured, McD was in control of everything the entire time. his scheme, his philosophy, his bat and ball. Think about this, there is a reason no big names or ex head coaches were brought in as coordinators - can't bring in the heir apparent or someone that doesn't think like you (insert Daboll here). So how did that work out? #1 against the deep ball and #1 rushing team? God, it's like the 80's again. Best QB ever and so stubborn in his philosophy that he turned us into a ground and pound while nurturing 17 to a game manager. He dropped a defense on the field to beat essentially a run and shoot and got gauged in the run for it for 8 YEARS. Funny, I had CIO that used to say he was always the smartest guy in the room and one day I questioned it and he told me because he knows when he is not, and gets people that are. Still use it to this day now that I am in that role. This is without question, the right call. Edited January 20 by ren1701 Quote

It’s just giving the incoming coach a clear vision of the organization in this transition. He's also directly giving Beane responsibility for the new coach. I am hoping that Beane is also on a shortened leash, like he gets the coach he wants and has two or years or so to get us over the hump. Quote

Beane and Pegula thinking that a WR room that features Shakir as your #1 WR and waiver signing Brandon Cooks as your #2, is good enough for a Super Bowl… that is downright frightening. Thinking that a backfield with Rapp or Poyer as your starting SS is good enough? Scary. This is bad. It is certainly concerning. I am less high on Beane than I was a week ago, and I thought he should be the first one shown the door. 1 Quote
LetsGoRed Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Given the circus this has already turned into, I think what we'll all miss the most about McDermott's tenure is how we were not an embarrassing organization for almost a decade (or at least we were better at hiding the dysfunction). Quote

But we had nothing else, and it was working. It's Bo Nix, not Mahomes. Quote
