Just Jack Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Did a tennis decision influence the Bills' firing of Sean McDermott? - Yahoo Sports Quote In February of 2024, Jessica Pegula ended a highly successful five-year run with then-coach David Witt, despite having risen as high as a No. 3 world singles ranking in 2022 and reaching multiple singles quarterfinals in Grand Slam events from 2021 to 2023. That included three straight quarterfinals appearances in the Australian Open. That success hit some rocks early in 2024, with Pegula withdrawing ahead of the quarterfinals in the Adelaide International and then losing a stunning second-round match in the Australian Open, where she later withdrew from doubles competition. Not long after, Pegula fired Witt and reshaped her coaching staff with an outside-the-box choice: Hiring a pair of co-coaches in Mark Knowles and Mark Merklein. At the time, it was a move that intrigued and surprised the tennis community given the success that Pegula found under Witt’s guidance. ... Quote Seven months after making the coaching change, Pegula found some of the breakthrough she was seeking — advancing to the US Open singles final, the first Grand Slam singles final of her career. “You wonder if [Terry and Kim] see the same things with the Bills situation,” the personnel source said. 3 2 1 Quote
Since1981 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 That is a fascinating angle. She wrote this today on the Aussie Open camera. 4 Quote

Or maybe we go into games and the opponent doesn't know who will be coaching for us that game and what to prepare for if they are totally different styles! That would be a new angle! 😂 2 5 1 Quote

boater Posted January 20 Posted January 20 More likely than Jessica... Pegula's head is inflated by his recent success firing the Sabres GM. He now has that itch to tinker with the Bills after all these years of being a hand's off owner. Terry is sowing his wild oats, fasten yer seat belts. 1 2 Quote

Very interesting and there is no doubt in my mind that this was not part of the equation in his thinking. This is a powerful parallel. Thanks for sharing. 8 minutes ago, boater said: More likely than Jessica... Pegula's head is inflated by his recent success firing the Sabres GM. I am not sure I would say more likely but definitely the recent success of the Sabres just reinforces that thought process. Quote
thenorthremembers Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Man these reporters are really grasping at straws until the news of interviews comes out. 3 3 1 Quote

Sabres re hired ruff, and makes me think that they'd greatly consider daboll as hc. Which I don't personally love, but it just seems like such a pegula move if what you say is true Quote

Mr. WEO Posted January 20 Posted January 20 this move was so obvious and over due that we really don't have to find some cryptic source for it. Jessica Pegula? come on! 2 1 Quote

I was going to say I love Jessica and always root for her - but the irony of her not being able to 'win the big one' in this context is not lost one me Edited January 20 by stevewin Quote

Why not. Pegula apparently asked for Josh's permission to fire McD so why wouldn't he also involve his children in the decision. Quote
