Integrity and character matters more than ever these days. He is such a good role model for young people which is way more important than any Super Bowl he could help deliver. 4 2 Quote
Got 2 Billieve Posted January 19 Posted January 19 This organization was in the darkest depths of irrelevance for 17 years after the 90's era. The carousel of GM's, coaches, quarterbacks, etc. during 2000 -2016 was brutal. Sean coming in 2017 and immediately creating a culture and breaking the drought was awesome and refreshing. He changed this organization and was a class act during his tenure here. He poured everything he had into this team and the community. I feel awful for him that he won't be able to lead the team out of the tunnel in the new stadium to start the 2026 season. It's a sad day for Buffalo fans (even if you were one who kept calling of his job) because it marks an end of an era. Thank you for all you put into this team over the last 9 years. You will be missed but will always be a part the Buffalo Bills legacy. 1 2 Quote
Jerome007 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I would have been OK with his firing other years. It seemed to me this year was his best year, and that he now had what I took the win the Big One. He clearly had the team locked in, believing in one another. They were so close too.... Quote
ColoradoBills Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thank you, coach McDermott, for everything you have done for the team, the fans and the city. Best wishes and best of luck in the future. 1 Quote

McDermott is a very solid coach but unfortunately the window closed. With that said, he bled Buffalo and you could tell in his core he wanted nothing more than to get a SB in Buffalo. He’s one of the best coaches in franchise history, created a winning culture and got the franchise turned around. Just couldn’t lead them to where expectations are! I hope he lands on his feet and I have nothing but respect for the job he did and how he carried himself. I wish him and his entire family the very best! Good HC and took this team as far as he could, I wish him and his family the best. I'm sure he will be coaching next season with his resume Quote

Bermuda Triangle Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Truly did an "admiral" job. Such a joke of a franchise. I disagreed with a lot of game management decisions, but he was a good guy, respected by players and he embraced the area. Appalled that Beane is still employed by the Bills. 1 Quote
BillsShredder83 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 It was time, but I respect the hell out of the man... whivh makes today bitter sweet. I wouldve absolutely loved to have won a Chip and kept him around, as he continued to evolve. Didnt happen that way. Its kinda weird, but I told my wife "I feel like dad got fired". Absolutely somebody i would want leading my kids as a coach, or being a mentor or friend, helluva relative. Hes formed life long bonds with a ton pf players here, that would defend him to their death. That speaks to his character. Without a moments hesitation, I hope he absolutely kills it at his next stop and learns from this. Imagine if dude got the Raiders or Cards a trophy in 5-6 years. Thank you Coach!!! Quote
Tulsabillsfanz Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thank you Sean for leading the Bills with honesty and integrity. You helped bring us out of our long drought into consistent competitiveness. You’ve been a great role model for the players for these last 9 years. This door has closed, but I’m sure another one will open for you. May God bless you in all your future endeavors. Quote
oldmanfan Posted January 19 Posted January 19 McD deserves respect and appreciation from the Mafia. He turned the franchise in the right direction but unfortunately couldn’t close the deal. When he comes back with whichever his new team will be, I expect he will, and should, get a rousing ovation from Bills fans. 1 1 Quote
HamptonBillsfan Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Sean is just what everyone aspires to be. His loyalty and decency inspired everyone who played for him and fans of the Bills. He was a great leader and motivator. He is perfect for a losing franchise who need a winning culture builder. To Sean and his family, good luck and thanks for a great ride. 1 Quote
Alphadawg7 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 One of the best things that every happened to the Bills was hiring McD. He leaves the Bills with the following facts: Most points scored in the NFL since 2020. Least points allowed in the NFL since 2020. Largest point differential in the NFL since 2020 at +902 (next closest team not even at +600) Best record in the NFL since 2020. Longest streak of games with not losing by more than 1 score in NFL history. One of the best winning % in NFL history. Broke the 17 year drought starting Tyrod and Peterman who were throwing to Zay Jones and Kelvin Benjamin after we traded away our best talent that year No Super Bowl Appearances. Its an incredible resume, but #8 is what caused the change, regardless how much one puts on the coach for that or not, that is a long time of dynasty level dominance in the regular season to never make a SB. He is as much a reason Buffalo is as good as they have been as Josh Allen, but someone on TV summed it up perfectly. Right now he clearly has the highest floor of anyone we an put in as HC, but it just feels like his ceiling here has been reached and new energy and ideas is needed to take another step. I am forever grateful for Sean, he has been and excellent coach, leader, pillar, man of the community, and embodies everything that Buffalo is since being here. And I think the next team he goes to is getting one heck of a football coach. Whether he can win the big game is yet to be seen, but everything up to that point you would be hard pressed to find someone better right now. Thanks you Sean, and good luck (except against the Bills) in your next stop. I don't look forward to having to face you on the other side of the field, so please don't go to the Ravens. 2 Quote
Stanley Lombardi Posted January 19 Posted January 19 So many of us have the uttermost in respect and affection for you. You made the Bills better. You made Buffalo better. Godspeed, Coach McDermott. Quote
cantwaitanylonger Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) He's a good coach, but his football philosophy (low risk on both sides of the ball) has never been the correct fit when you have a generational talent at QB on your team. He'll probably do really well coaching another team with a mid-level QB and offense on the other side of the ball. He's just been wrong the coach for a team with Josh Allen on it and he has been for years. I feel bad for him, but the organization should have done this well before now. Virgil Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I was suprised I had to scroll down so far to find this thread, but happy I didn't have to make one. Yes, thank you McD. Thank you so much! I am so grateful for everything you did here. You ended the drought. You made us not only relevant, but a team that opposing teams circled on their calendars. You embraced this team, this city, and so many other things that can't be measured. I wanted you to be the man who brought us a championship, I really did. I'm not going to say anything about if I think this was justified, because it's not important. I wish you and your family nothing but the best and I have no doubt you will find success elsewhere. Thank you coach Quote

Thank you coach Fair enough. I too wish the best for him and his family. They might even be glad if he gets a job closer to his home (wherever this is). I always said that he was a good field general. If he goes to a team on which the GM is in control and he should be fine. Mr. Peluga gave him the keys to the store which was a dreadful mistake. 1 Quote
Ga boy Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I liked McD’s approach with emphasis on run to reduce punishment to Josh and rest the D, and his values were excellent. Unlike other firings, he is in the category of Marv in terms of gratitude and respect. Thanks Sean! 2 Quote
