Man with No Name Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Cheers to a very, very good coach, man and leader. He'll make the next team he goes to very happy.. Quote
Draconator Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thank you Coach McDermott for giving the Bills fans real hope. On to the next journey. Quote
The Red King Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thanks for turning us around and fixing the culture here. Was not an easy task. Wish you the best going forward. Quote
KingBoots8 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Much respect to the guy. He helped us go from irrelevant to a contender. I understand why he had to go, but I can still mourn for that while looking toward the future and finding the next guy to usher in a new era of Buffalo Football. Go Bills, Go McD (except when against us). Please go to the Raiders, or Arizona or something. Quote
Brianmoorman4jesus Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Look I’m out here stunting like it’s the best day in franchise history but I’ll say : This guy ended the drought. He turned us around completely and took us from a joke to a perennial contender. I truly appreciate him for that and im very thankful for what he did from 2017-2022. McDermott was the perfect guy at the perfect time when he took over. I appreciate what he did and I wish him the best. He was a great representative of the organization and seems like an even better person. He took us where he could take us and now it’s time for change. It’s nothing personal and I have no ill will towards him. Thank you for the turnaround and good luck sir. Wish it could have been you that got us there but we have to keep pushing. Quote
US Egg Posted January 19 Posted January 19 It’s missing him a year from now that I’m concerned about. Quote
extrahammer Posted January 19 Posted January 19 He will continue to get better as a HC, especially now that he's not working under Beane. Thank you, Coach. You turned us into a playoff caliber team and had to deal with major adversities, and always appreciated the city of Buffalo. Tough breakup. Quote
cgang Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I think of the state the Bills were in before Sean. We had sexy Rexy, and before that Moron (who quit), and before that Chan (and this list makes me tired and depressed thinking who came before Chan). Our GM situation was even worse with Doug “I can’t get a qb bc the bills suck just a bit less than I need to draft a good one” Whaley. The storied Bills franchise was taking hit after hit culture wise as the mediocre years of no playoffs ticked by, Ralph dies, we fight off trump and Bon Jovi for ownership, and pegula secures the team’s future in Buffalo. Sean McDermott was a big factor in turning things around. He instilled great culture here, had a hand in drafting Josh when other teams, scouts, players, and talking heads chastised the decision, and gave us winning seasons and hope. And I always will remember how he brought leadership, compassion and support to these young men when Hamlin went down. Just look back on that game and videos of the players trying to battle through with their emotions. He brought critical leadership and heart to helping the team through that adversity. Thank you coach McDermott for all you have done. I am sorry you couldn’t get that Super Bowl for us and I support the decision to fire you. Some times change is necessary and I think this is one of those times. But I truly believe you helped save our franchise and I tip my hat to you. 1 Quote
boater Posted January 19 Posted January 19 McDermott is a great A-- Whisperer. (one who knows how to handle entitled people) He'll do great with Lamar Jackson. Quote
JMM Posted January 19 Posted January 19 THANK YOU COACH!! You did the best you could and gave us a good winning organization. Grateful. Good luck. Quote
Fan in Chicago Posted January 19 Posted January 19 36 minutes ago, TFBillsfan said: I’m really not surprised by the move as you only get so many chances in the NFL. McDermott is a very solid coach but unfortunately the window closed. With that said, he bled Buffalo and you could tell in his core he wanted nothing more than to get a SB in Buffalo. He’s one of the best coaches in franchise history, created a winning culture and got the franchise turned around. Just couldn’t lead them to where expectations are! I hope he lands on his feet and I have nothing but respect for the job he did and how he carried himself. I wish him and his entire family the very best! Thank you for this. I was thinking of a similar thread. A stand up man, very honorable and a good leader of men. I appreciate he brought this franchise to continuous respectability and dealt with issues very well. Thank you, Coach and good luck for your future endeavors unless it is against the Bills. (and I request also to leave this thread free of McDermott criticism. There are plenty of other threads for that) Quote
Nitro Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thank you McD for taking this team out of the gutter and making them a contender. Deserved better. He made chicken salad out of chicken crap this season. A torrent of injuries could have torpedoed the season but he and his staff kept the team afloat. Best coaching was done this year. Fired because of drafting ineptitude by Beane. I wish MCD luck in his next coaching stop. Quote
hondo in seattle Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thanks coach for taking us from the depths of of the drought to the heights of a legit SB contender. I hope you get your trophy somewhere - just not against the Bills. Quote
boater Posted January 19 Posted January 19 McDermott fostered a culture where the players commonly say they "love each other" they "will go into battle for one another" they "are united" That has attracted free agents, like Bosa saying "this is the best team culture" he has seen. It makes high-qualified veterans return to the team at a team friendly price. Some prick like Belichick or Daboll would blow up that culture in a NY minute. Quote
junyto45 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Good luck to McDermott wherever he goes. He helped turn this franchise around and he deserves respect. Quote
Blank Stare Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thank you, McD for everything you put into this city and organization. Great man, but it was time. You cannot keep failing with the best player in the league at the most important position in sports. Quote
Urban Achievers Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Super guy. Changed our culture. It was overdue though. He shouldn’t be the only fire today (Beane) Quote
Since1981 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 McDermott was good. Great for the time and place. Change was needed. Is this the change? Don’t know. Quote
