  1. 1. Would you rather have McDermott or Tomlin next year

I don’t see Pegula making a change but if he did I can only see him going after Tomlin. No way does he fire McDermott for an unproven coordinator. There is something intriguing about Mike Tomlin as the Bills head coach. Great motivator, gets the best out of his players but hasn’t had a legit QB to work with in a long time. He’s got the name and reputation and I wonder if the thought is going through Pegula’s head to get a fresh start. I think it would be viewed as doing something by Pegula that is also low risk. Would Bills fans be happy with this move though? I know Tomlin said he wants the year off but if Pegula calls him and said the job is yours idk how he could turn the job down. He would have another great opportunity to get a Super Bowl and comment his legacy as one of the best coaches to do it.

Tomlin has won a SB with an elite QB and went to another. I'd 100% prefer Tomlin over McDermott and it's not really that close.

Well he’s available.

Tomlin didn't step down (if that's true and he wasn't pushed out) from a place he coached for 19 years to take another job and relocate  his family this offseason. Not here. Not anyplace else.

I've seen some pictures online in the last week of him attending his daughter's sporting events. That's where I think his focus is now.

If this poll is even close there are some really silly people on here!

I cannot imagine the reaction of Bills' fans if the Bills ever looked as unprepared for one playoff game as Tomlin's Steelers do consistently-- and for many years in a row. 2018 is the last time the Steelers won a playoff game and they were not even competitive in any of them since that 2018 game.

I think I read that they were behind by 21 points in every playoff game during this period-?

When you watch them in the playoffs they literally look like they are out of their league.  They have no chance.

This is  a coach some want over Sean McDermott!?

Oh my.

You have to have some bizarre analysis issues if you would rather have Mike Tomlin as the Bills' head coach.

False conundrum.. There's better options than both these two.. We need a QB whisperer but if I had to yes or no, it would depend greatly upon Tomlin's OC/DC choices...

Fair enough. I just don’t see Pegula taking that risk while also not having a true GM to help him figure that out. If there’s a change this year I think it’s for Tomlin only. Otherwise McDermott and Beane both go after 2026 if no Super Bowl.

Neither.  Why on earth would someone hire mike tomlin at this point?  He is all wrong for buffalo.

There are plenty of young coaches around the league who would give years off their life to get a chance to come and coach this team with Allen/cook and this offensive line.

With Prob the best QBs ever in Manning and Brady around.

You have to trade for Tomlin fyi

Trade McD for Tomlin both need a refresh. I can tell you Tomlin just needed a franchise QB that is even better than Big Ben,

Tomlin is a more conservative McDermott. Imagine McDermott that doesn't go for it on 4th half as often and will punt it while being even deeper into the opposing teams side of the field.

I think a better post might be laying out a value system for a head coach. I.e. what qualities are a priority in the next coach.

E.g.: 30-40 years old, excellent communicator,  offensive genius, humble enough to want the best defensive coordinator money can buy to complement their offense, etc.

Idk how this franchise survives losing multiple picks…Payton cost that current years first then the next years second and third.

I don’t think Tomlin even wants to coach or he would’ve had pit fire him

I think he would knowing JA17 is his QB, what coach would not want to start with that critical top 5 in the league in piece to be successful? Why picks? McD is under contract like Tomlin, trade em. If Tomlin can make playoffs with no QB or dude that should be retired, what is the risk here?

We need a refresh, renew and a change as he does. For that matter McD does.

I don’t put much stock into Tomlins last few playoff appearances. They didn’t have a QB. Hell Tyrod might have been a better QB then what he’s been working with. Idk if he would continue to coach conservatively if he had Josh Allen as his QB. They always had to rely on the defense and limit their Qbs from costing them games. Just saying he has the pedigree and reputation which I think Pegula would like. Also, Pegula would be covered by the media for doing this and wouldn’t get much pushback IMO. So barring this idea I don’t see any changes getting made this year.

Some of you are going by what actually might be best for winning. I see Terry going for this because it’s a much safer higher PR wise while still getting the fanbase excited by bringing in a well liked proven winner.

I do think it could be great for the psyche of the players here bringing in a guy like that as well.

Great motivator?

Gets the most out of his players??

Low risk???

But I think this phrase best sums up your thoughts:  "He's got the name and the reputation."

Reading those now bold quotes of yours really puts it all into perspective, how anyone can say these things about Tomlin. And then make the leap that he would be a great replacement for McDermott.  A very rational way to make a vital decision for the team.

You need to use your high level football  analysis and carefully considered criteria for a coach and become our next GM.

The Bills can really use a low risk, well known man with a reputation of some kind.  Who can ever deny that?

It took me a while to understand the OP, but after re-reading it, it makes much more sense why someone would be calling for this caoaching change.

Now I get it. And you are right. Mike Tomlin really does meet your main criteria for a head coach. To a tee.

I’m also trying to view this through the lens of the owner. Reputations in the NFL do matter to these people. I don’t know why you are so angry at the thought of Tomlin coaching this team. He has a great reputation because he is in fact a Super Bowl winner. More than McDermott can say at this point. Also, widely known as being very respected and loved by his players. If the Bills are going to start fresh this year there are way worst options. Bills could still go out and get a fresh young OC if that’s what everyone wants.
