boyst Posted January 18 Posted January 18 It's appalling that we couldn't generate pass rushers this year. Fool's gold with Joey Bosa, Ed Oliver getting hurt sucked, and our whole scheme just doesn't press upfield. Any change in our defensive scheme would alienate several of the great players we have on defense. Specifically Cole Bishop. Quote

Brandon Posted January 18 Posted January 18 The good news for Maye is that the Pats front office is willing to put more than two NFL caliber offensive linemen in front of him. 2 Quote

Wintermute Posted January 18 Posted January 18 It hurts to see but it is what is is, he's legit, they're well coached, have high end talent in the right spots, and will have immense amounts of money to spend in the offseason to improve. Reminds me of watching the Sabres tank and the ensuing 10+ seasons, only for the Leafs to have tanked and turned it around in one year. Granted, the Leafs choke and are now on their way down, but the vibe at the time was heartbreak. Quote

billsbackto81 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 He's very good and can possibly become elite. He's in an organization that knows how to build a team in all 3 phases and they know when to cut bait when needed. Competent coaching, front office and ownership go a long way. As we've witnessed the last 8 years, its not always about the QB. 2 Quote

The ends are coached to look run to pass. They're processing setting the edge not chasing the QB. They get chipped by RB's and TE's. Even despite this Groot and Bosa were both in Nix's face but outside of Walker I didn't hear one DT's name called all game long. Quote

Too bad Hoecht couldn’t lay off the sauce and his Achilles exploded 1 1 Quote

All unique but don't fit the system that fits the rest of defense that's designed to shut down elite passing. The four man front to post up a wall and let linebackers scrape the edges and protect the a/b gap. Our defense works best when we have 42 system but I wish we could figure out 33. A standup LB/DE like Hoecht would have helped yesterday. Bosa was the big name (and nose) people all hyped up but he was never a good fit for this team. Hoecht and Thompson were. Quote

People are down on Bosa and I'm not even going to try to argue he was great. I don't think he was as bad as some people think but I can see where expectations weren't met. Either way I've often thought to myself why didn't they move Bosa to the Hoecht role given they're the most similar in style and let AJ play DE. Not talking every down but in pass rush situations. Either way water under the bridge now. 1 1 Quote
