I think most posters here myself included expected a one and done playoff performance from the Bills this year

Then you and the "most posters" were WRONG again.

If the Bills lose a 50/50 knuckleball game against the Broncos largely I am OK with brining back everyone except maybe the DC. I think brining in an outside mind at DC might be a good idea. This isn't to say I think that McD is the coach to get the Bills over the top but I am not too inspired by who is out on the market to replace McD who is a good coach. Stefanski is the one coach I would consider but I am not too thrilled with him. There's not a Ben Johnson level hot up and coming OC that is out on the market nor is there a high quality retread that is a fit (Tomlin and Harbaugh are not fits for what this team needs).

I think the run it back with McBeane and Joe Brady (as well as the ST coach as the ST unit has been solid this year better than the previous few seasons) and replace the DC is the best course of action. But I think the Bills will beat the Broncos, feeling oddly confident about the game.

I'm of the opinion that if we fail this year it's got more to do with the roster Beane built than the way Sean has coached it. I'm ok with Beane being gone and Sean staying as long as Babich is replaced. Actually, in a perfect world I'd love to see Babich demoted back to position coach where he has been excellent and a real DC brought in.

I think Brady is back next year if he doesn't snag a HC job. As well as I think he should be. Last 2 years his offense has produced a league MVP (with not much talent at WR) and a rushing champion...when teams knew full well that we had to run because Beane didn't replenish the WR room. I think if/when Brady leaves there will be a lot of people down the road saying we should have kept him.

Can't make this determination without seeing the game play out.

The main frustration about Sean McDermott has been how the Defense collapses in the playoffs.  They have been the primary cause for us failing to advance five years in a row.  Until now, the excuse has been facing the NFL's elite QBs in Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow.  He doesn't get to pull that card if we are facing Bo Nix.  So if the Broncos are able to run around the field and score at will, that should absolutely put McDermott back on the hotseat.

The main frustration with Brandon Beane has been his failure to properly address a few key positions.  None bigger than at Wide Receiver.  His cocky attitude in the offseason, combined with not making a move at the trade deadline... both of those decisions are looming very large.  If the Offense stalls due to WRs not getting open, it falls directly at the GM's feet.

If the playcalling is stale and predictable, Joe Brady's job could also be on the line.

Bottom line... winning against the Jaguars last week was nice.  But we've gotten to the 2nd Round of the playoffs six years in a row.  The question isn't getting to this point, but what we need to do to get past it.

I agree with this.  McDermott has done a lot this year with injuries and multiple contributors not contributing.

McDermott is here next year if we lose....unless it's emabarrassing.

Beane will be gone.

I tend to land here unless there is another 13 seconds...

If we get beat and it’s McDs fault and then Lafleur’s agent contacts the bills and says I want the job in Buffalo over sticking with GB then heck ya

But I do think outside of a SB appearance Beane is on the hot seat no matter what

I agree with the OP on every point, except Babich. I think he needs to prove what he can do, without being chained to a walking triage of a defense.  As a positional coach, his units have always performed well.  I think we owe it to him and his potential to give him a chance with a health defense and not a rag tag group of PS players.

I can kinda see both sides of this for sure but one thing I will say is if mcd gets fired after a divisional round loss this year it would be absolutely unprecedented.  Doesn’t make it wrong necessarily of course

all these ‘good’ coaches that people typically cite the firings of as precedence either lost multiple recent first round matchups in short succession or missed the playoffs and that includes the often referenced Tony Dungy.  Not sure if there’s someone I’m not thinking of though 😂

I don’t think a guy in mcd’s situation has ever really been fired before

I’d probably give him one more true Super Bowl or bust season if it was up to me just based on the available coaches being meh this cycle

Mc Clappy earned another season doing miracles with backups and cast-offs after last weeks win. Fire the new strength and conditioning coaches please!

Although, If the Pats get to the SB before us, then it could be time to clean house.\ or make major changes. I know a big part of this mess is Diggs becoming a traitor to Bills mafia.

Already there is word McD is safe , Beene 50/50

I am all for Beane getting fired and keeping McD if there is a major change.

The roster construction need a major refresh and the drafting can be a lot better. I would hire whoever is in the eagles front office, because their drafts and trades seem like they have been absolutely killer.

Interesting comment on strength and conditioning.

Any sports science people on this thread?  Is it just bad luck that we've encountered?  I remember for years and early on in Josh's glowup, that we were one of the more healthy teams.  Then in 2022 was it, we lost White, Miller, the next year Milano, etc., since then, we've been snakebite not just with injuries, but major injuries with key players and across some positional groups.

Anybody know the actual science and stats on this?

It's not as easy as that. A new GM especially a good one who has been successful in this league may want to move on from McDermott and bring in his own HC.

McDermott as GM also? Might be too much for him but some coaches have done both. Would need a D coordinator who can call his own plays so he wouldn't have to do that at all.

Yes.

This isn't easy for me because I've defended McDermott for a long time but...

The defense isn't good. It hasn't been for a while. We've been seeing the same things: slow starts, 3rd and 4th down breakdowns. At this point, it has to be a coaching issue.

The Bills have the best remaining QB in the playoffs by a country mile, and the league rushing leader. If they are getting bounced again I think we have to have a new start

Win or lose, I'd like to see McDermott go out and hire the best coordinators they can find. Promoting from within isn't getting it done.

Like a Davis Webb or someone from McVay's or Shanahan's staff for offense.

Defense, give Brian Flores the asst HC/DC title if he isn't picked up as head coach.

Beane needs to reshuffle the scouting dept and let someone else choose the first 3 picks off the draft.

If they get bounced tomorrow Beane needs to go.  One year ago we were lamenting about the lack of talent a WR, a weak defensive line and a pathetic pash rush, and no secondary depth (particular at safety).

All of those problems still exist today.
